Posted By gamahuche 2 months, 4 weeks ago in NewsThe REAL story is: How the NY Times printed a story that hasn't got a f***ing Clue! These "Reporters" coudn't have got more wrong if they'd tried!
BERLIN: The Obama administration has developed possible alternative plans for a missile defense shield that could drop hotly disputed sites in Poland and the Czech Republic , a move that would please Russia and Germany but sour relations with American allies in Eastern Europe.

Anyway bit seems hardly surprising when it happens in the course of dealing with perhaps the absolute worst-written NYTimes story that it has been my dismay to ever encounter. If these reporters talked to anyone on the ground it must have been the village idiot - on a very drunk night..
A couple of days ago I posted a sensible story on the same topic from the British Guardian here

Lets start with the fact that while the Polish people are very much for THEIR part of the missile shield project the Czech people are almost as equally adamantly against THEIR part - and since there is an election due in the Czech Republic shortly [it was scheduled for the 9th and 10th October - but apparently today some constitutional objection has appeared to those dates]. Only one of the relevant Czech parties is FOR the project - the ODS, or Civic Democrats and they are very unlikely to emerge as the winners..
Bear with me.. its dog-walking time.. -

Well the biggest one is this para -
FTA
But administration officials rejected the assertion that a reformulated missile defense system would forsake Eastern European security. “We definitely are not abandoning our commitment to defend our European allies from a missile threat from Iran,” said one official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the review was not complete. “We are exploring options that will enhance the defense of our European allies.”..
I should imagine that this official is anonymous because he doesn't exist..If he ever did they'd have fired him for stupidity.
Any genuine official would know full well that there is NOTHING about the missile shield elements in either the Czech Rep. or in Poland that is intended to, nor will, in any way whatsoever, protect the local populations from ANYTHING. To the contrary - it will potentially make them front line targets!
Enough of this BS already! Its a dangerous scarcely tested technology and the downside far outweighs any conceivable benefit for the inhabitants of the two potential host countries. The Russian suggestion to build a facility of this nature, jointly with the US, further towards the South East of Europe as a protection against a potential threat from Iran COULD make some sense - if it actually works - because it could potentially protect the whole of Europe, in addition to the US. -

One anonymous "official"? Sounds as if the whole story evolved from some guy who sweeps up after hours or works part time in the mail room. A sad day for the times...though they do publish Rove's rants and propaganda, I thought they were more reliable than this.
