Then why are the polls for Republicans up more than ever. Why are the upcoming elections looking like a Republican sweep.

That top level "hope and change" is being replaced by the actual concepts and the country is getting heartburn. One of the major problems that the Republicans had that lost them first congress and then the presidency was the Bush deficits. All the promises about stopping it turned out to be a lie when the Democrats took congress. Now with a Democrat president they are making Bush look like a miser. Heartburn big time for the country. This health care boondoggle that will raise the deficit $1 trillion in 10 years adds to that heartburn. 43 new bureaucracies to control ALL aspects of health care is another one. Historically all helath care proposals that became law have been wrong in their projections 10 years out by a factor of 10 so a realistic number for the health care deficit should really be $10 trillion for 1- years. MAJOR MAJOR HEARTBURN!!!!

If by independents you mean the white supremacist successionists in Texas with their bellies hanging over their brass belt buckles and the militia evangelicals in their terrorist cells waiting fatwahs from their mullahs on faux noise, or the birthers, deathers, creationists, global warming deniers, 911 truthers, big footers, UFOers, and the usual assortment of nutters, yeah, Obama is losing their support.

Let us not forget the Ludwick Von Mises psuedointellectual Reaganite anarchists who desire fuedalism back where billionaires pay no taxes and control their fiefdoms, and they can live in pioneer peace on their compound with their 14 wives.
Obama extended every olive branch he could find, and right now the psycho paranoid McCarthyists are screaming socialist when Obama is trying to speak to children in school with the message stay in school and set goals.
Of course, the whack nut independents and evangelical repugs think education is socialist, and objective thought is evil.-

Most of the ones you described never supported Obama in the first place, and were more likely to have supported McCain than an independent candidate.

I am an Independent, Libertarian to be exact. I was not a supporter of Obama but was willing to give him a chance, this is the stance many independents took.
So I like many others Independents have stood back and observed, letting his polices and actions shape our opinion of his presidency.
My verdict so far, I have not been overly impressed by his performance. His motives often seem sincere and he appears to be trying. It is some of his policies and approaches that I am not overly impressed with.

Wow! I'm shocked! Is that a CNN Poll? And if so are they really publishing it? Kudos to CNN! I figured they would stifle such a story and I would only hear it on FOX News. The world must be coming to an end and hell must be freezing over. Or I've been kidnapped by aliens and am really on another planet. Unbelievable!

Could it actually be that they find the way the Democrats have managed the Health care thing and others and disapprove of that?

We haven't had very good choices of those we had to choose from in elections fro quite some time.
I tired of having to choose between the best of the worse choices aren't you/
Where are the decent people that would make the right choice of the nation over their party? Will there ever be someone liek that again running for office?-

I believe that Barack Obama is a decent person and is doing what he thinks is best for the whole country. I have talked with friends who have worked directly with him in Illinois government and the feel the same way (even one lifelong Republican, elected state level and active in the party). He has certainly made a point of trying to create a bi-partisan atmosphere in Washington where compromise is acceptable and confrontation undesirable. Unfortunately he has met with some resistance from his own party members and almost total resistance from the Republicans. As long as senators and congressmen are competing with one another for campaign funds from lobbyists and special interest groups we will continue to see the intractable partisanship that can paralyze our government.

We have been chanting the same thing, but unfortunately, there are many that are more than willing to vote for the lesser of two evils.
Reply
Tang and I had a long discussion out that a month ago. Voters need to pick the candidate that truly represents their views, not the lesser of two evils. Something he could not agree to. Until he and others change that way of thinking, the best we can ever hope for is the lesser of two evils.
That is a sad testament to our current political system and those that represent us.
