Half-assed reform only plays into the hands of insurance companies and republicans. Even here in my red, conservative state, folks supporting a public option seem to outnumber those who want no government involvement.

Republicans have to be appeased and nothing less than that is going to allow any kind of health care reform to take place in this country. IMO, appeasing republicans means that there will be some kind of protection for Ins Co's and Pharms.

Insurance Co's have had death panels for years and years, they have had control of how long a people are allowed to stay in the hospital, most of the time these decisions have been made by clerical people who have no idea about medicine. Also, many people who have had cancer have actually been denied surgeries, stating that there were alternative forms of treatment. I know this because a woman here in Louisville sued Humana Ins for denying her Dr's request to do surgery on her for Cervical Cancer, and after she went ahead and had the surgery anyway, she won a multimillion dollar suit against Humana. Of course they appealed and it's still in litigation, she will probably be dead by the time it's settled. That said!! That is what our insurance companies are doing for us, nothing! Fighting the Dr's tooth and nail, which is why we need serious health care reform. AND had this been Bushies project, the conservatives would be all for it, but since when do cons do anything for the actual voters??
