Hey, thanks for the tickets, Y!

I think Oprah is a prime example of American success. I have read a little bit about her background, and I applaud her for realizing the American dream.

Unlike a lot of Icons, for example Kennedy, Rockefeller, Kerry, etc, she started from scratch and built her own world.

Like so many of our so-called ultra-wealthy in this country, the ones who actually earned it themselves are very giving. Not the "noblesse oblige" attitude of the ones who never lifted a finger to earn their wealth, but the "giving from the heart" because they feel like it. (I am also thinking of Gates, Buffet and countless other entrepreneurs right now.)

That attitude just seems like the epitome of the "American Spirit" to me. Whether wealthy or poor, Americans are givers, that is a major reason this country became such a success in the first place. We give, not because some bully tells us we have to, but because it is how we are.

Thanks for the post, again! I always love it when I see entrepreneurs, am reminded of how it is within everyone's reach here in the USA with effort, and how one of the truly successful ones are usually trying to give it back.

I do not know a whole lot about Oprah and her programs, but I applaud her for her "All American" attitude and success. I do know she has made a lot of people very happy, and she did it herself, it wasn't inherited. (Not that there is any thing wrong with inheriting, it just seems that charity is more real when it comes from the one who earned it in the first place).
