Video: Bush and Reagan school addresses were very partisan compared to Obama school speech »
Posted By Progressive 2 months, 3 weeks ago in FamilyIn the first clip one of the upset parents first claims that anyone would be upset if Reagan had tried to speak to children. Rick Sanchez quickly mentions that in fact Reagan did address children in 1988. As the clip shows Reagan uses a response to one question to advocate for his tax cuts. I know conservatives agree with Reagan tax cuts but I can tell you the Reagan tax cuts hardly had bi-partisan support. For those who still think Reagan's response was non-partisan let me ask if you would really consider President Obama's speech non-partisan if he advocated tax increases on the rich?

I don't remember Reagan or Bush broadcasting into school classrooms and following up with a video, using the Dept of education's data base of all of the schools in the US.

Are the clips you are talking about direct, face to face conversations in schools?-

Yes they were broadcast into schools. I remember sitting through Reagan's speech myself in high school.

This whole controversy is ludicrous. It's a run of the mill speech from the president to stay in school and work hard toward set goals in life. How anyone can see it as a partisan message is baffling, to say the least. -

Selective memory!
Now, are you going to spend the rest of the evening condemning these two idiots the same way you were condemning Obama over the last couple of days for the same thing?

Bush and Reagan didn't have celebrities morphing into a picture of Obama and then ask the school children to PLEDGE TO BE A SERVANT TO THE PRESIDENT
Reply
Bush and Reagan didn't have the US Department of Education draw up a SUGGESTED? school activities curiculum designed around the Presidents speech
Bush and Reagan didn't suggest that one of those activities be an essay titlled "How Can I Be of Service To The President" which the White House later retreated on. That in itself should tell you the Obama and his administration knew they were way over the line.

You mean Bush?
Hitler developed a strong alliance with the war industries of germany, Krupt industries and IG Farben. Hitler condemned all opposition calling them communists; Hitler preached hate to those that weren't NATURAL German born and formed a strong "pure blood" culture. Hitler burned books to keep independent thought from the public; he castigated the psychiatric doctors.
Sounds alot like your thoughts and the Wing-Nuts you goose step around with.

I recall a film called "Jesus Camp" a couple of years ago and a clip with a bunch of children being made to worship a cut-out of GWB...and now the Tighty-Whitey-Righties are all upset over the President addressing the future generations...

Listen up folks. We don't need the President encouraging kids to stay in school and work hard to get a good education. We need a percentage of kids to drop out and flunk out because we need them to mop our floors, flip our burgers and haul our garbage. If to many of our kids get an education then we will have to bring in people from other countries to do these jobs. Then you know what will happen? What those ungrateful foriegners will do? They will send thier kids to school and encourage them to get an education. Some of those children will not only do that but they will take the education they get and go to other countries and try to help them raise themselves up out of poverty. This viscious cycle of encouraging kids to work hard and strive for a better future will spiral out of control. We must stop it now before it spreads-

Lets face it folks only children with the "right" parents should be encouraged to get an education and try to have an influence on the world. God knows the last thing we need is children from "those other" families to be inspired to get educated and take part in shaping the world and their own future.

I am not convinced this is really about the President for many of those who are upset about it. I think it is more about the future. It's about losing control of the future if to many of the "wrong" young people are inspire to become educated, informed and involved. -

How much does the current right wing talk show hosts sound like Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels?

Using the BIG LIE, claiming all who oppose the NAZI-Industrial alliance are communists, burning books, controlling thought, and apposing all who are not of pure blood. -

"I do hope his releasing the speech early will appease these knee-jerk reactionists enough for them to send their kids to school."
Reply
I doubt it. The people reacting to the speech this way don't really care what he actually says in his speech. He could read "My Pet Goat" as his speech and they'd be in a lather over that as well. -

i think what everybody here is forgetting, is that it is always ok to have to different sets of standards thats what makes us great - unfortunately us dems always seem to get shafted by these double standards, but we're good sports, so, oh well, until the next giant hypocritical right wing complaint comes along see you then

The shining house on the hill is "the Constitution, American principles, and self-determinism." All these were trampled down by Bush and his band of criminals for 8 years.
