Time Running out for Bipartisan Health Compromise »
Posted By Newperson 2 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsTime is running out for a two-party compromise on health care as a bipartisan group of six Finance Committee senators considers a new proposal that might be the last, best hope for an overhaul agreement. The six were to meet Tuesday on Sen. Max Baucus' proposal to create nonprofit insurance plans to compete with those offered by profit-making companies. The proposal by the committee chairman is noteworthy for the piece that's missing: a government-run alternative favored by liberal Democrats.President Barack Obama, who will address Congress and the nation on health care Wednesday night, told a Labor Day audience that it's time for insurance companies to share accountability for problems in the system. He was not addressing the Baucus plan.Four congressional committees so far have produced partisan plans for revamping the nation's health care system. Baucus, D-Mont., said he would move forward with a plan if there's no bipartisan agreement by Sept. 15.Baucus would impose a fee on insurance companies to help finance coverage for uninsured Americans.
It's not clear whether that would win support of two key Republicans in the group, Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Mike Enzi of Wyoming. The Baucus proposal reflected many of their priorities, chief among them the decision not to include the so-called public option to compete with private insurers.Grassley said he was concerned that any fee charged to insurance companies would end up getting passed on to other premium holders, and he embraced the notion of nonprofit health care cooperatives to help provide coverage for the uninsured.

"I think some politicians are trying to destroy any chances the president has to rebuild our nation."

"Rebuild"? Some don't see it that way.
"All they want is to go against the presidents plan to do what is best for all the american people."
Some people don't believe Obama's plan is what's best for "all the American people".
I guess in your version of "America", those with dissenting opinions should be....what? Silenced? -

Well that's what all of this nonsense over insurance reform is about. CONS want their power back, period. They don't give a good GD what gets destroyed in the process, including their country. After all, if they have power, WTH do they care about anything or anyone else?

Well beavith, if we calculated unemployment in the same way as the rest of the world, we would now be at 18.7%.

I think the correct metaphor is the ostrich with his head in the sand.
Amazing how many people are determined to "support" a "system" which is a proven, abject failure and has given us repeated crises (at least four since Reagan started us on the "corporatist" path) in which massive amounts of taxpayer money are transferred to the most wealthy part of the population. That is simply corruption and the usual abuse of the majority of the population by a corrupt minority.

Let's hope. The Dems don't need us to pass this legislation. And when it fails, as all Dem programs do, I'd rather they not have any Republicans to blame (although they will blame us anyway).-

--Why do cons say complete nonsense like this--as if we've forgotten it was you absolutely filthy weasels who voted for Bush and Cheney who are responsible for destroying our country? It's YOUR precious "free market" that's turned our country into a virtual toilet. Stop lying to yourself, cherev. ;-P -

That's the spirit!! Who cares what's good for the country? Why should you try to actually be involved in crafting the legislation so that it may be agreeable to you? That would be productive. Let's just make a lot of noise and refuse to have anything to do with it and hope that it fails so we can say " I told you so".

No one, and I mean NO ONE, is fooled with the "Republicans have not provided a health care reform proposal. That is Liberal spin, and even THEY, who generally have no shame, have to bow their heads to hide their red faces when they repeat this nonsense.
