With Obama's School "Controversy," the Press Gets (willingly) Duped Again »

Posted By Progressive 3 months, 4 weeks ago in Political News

Am I the only one feeling a strong sense of deja vu, now that the text of Obama's school address has been released and everyone can confirm the obvious, that not one of the idiotic claims made by the right-wing about how the President of the United States was going to "indoctrinate" school children was even remotely based on fact?

The press wasn't "duped," it's simply no longer interested in reporting facts, which sell fewer papers and get fewer website visits than reporting inflammatory partisan propaganda.

Lack of honesty in the media is driving polarization and will eventually lead to Americans living in two entirely separate worlds that are based on two conflicting sets of "facts" (if it hasn't already done that). And those different worlds have been created by partisans with agendas who want to manipulate the public.

The age of responsible journalism is over.

Answer to question 1: As many times as the far right wing nuts make up crap about Obama.

Answer to question 2: Not very many. No one wants to plead mea culpa because it would make them look like nut jobs too.

    Who was duped?

After seeing how much controversy was involved, the embarrassment of one of his Czar (buddies) having to resign over the weekend and in light of continuing to loose support on a number of items.

How long do you think it would take to write a new speech to school kids?

Not saying this to be the case, We will never know. I think with less controversy on other items this would not have been given a 2nd thought by most but all people have to judge him on is what he has done so far and who he chooses as friends.

As if the final draft was not changed due to the fact that someone took notice of the original "teaching moment" "lesson plan".

I think you're all wrong. The GOP doesn't have the power you guys continue to claim. We have talk radio and a few blogs. You have, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, BBC and any number of other news groups.

What really concerned people, including conservatives and some liberals was everything being prepared for the day. Lesson plans and worksheets on how the kids can help the President? Sounds very close to some of the methods used by dictators. I'm not saying he's a dictator or terrorist or anything negative. What I'm saying is that it appeared to be one of the methods used by some of the bad guys, infiltrate through the youth.

I think if Bush or Reagan would have asked to do something like this, the left would have had the same problem. The original plan was very dishonest.

If I was in high school...

and I heard I had to sit and listen to Obama's message, one word would have come to mind: boring.

but after hearing the cons speak out against Obama's speech, after hearing the cons tell us how much POWER our president has (presumably he has the ability to turn every child in america into a socialist with one speech), I'd be very curious, very interested in what Obama had to say.

and then when I'd heard his message, and realized it didn't brainwash me, and realized Obama actually wants me to push myself and do well in school, I'd have to wonder just what was wrong with all those conservatives in the first place. I'd have to wonder why do they hate the president, simply because he's so charismatic and his message is self-empowering? or is it something simpler, something more base and ugly, something as simple as black and white?

and that's how I would enter my adult life, wondering just whats wrong with the republicans for them to be so scared of and so hateful to our very own president for no reason at all.

I remember when President Herbert Bush did a survey to see it the military (Marines) would fire on American citizens. This is a little more radical than President Obama keeping to his promise. Addressing a group in one of the state runoff's he told the group not to disband the organization devoted to get him elected (when elected) because it was the same way they could be involved to make change. Him asking in a democracy for the youth to get involved is no where near a Machiavellian plot to overthrow the government in 8 years. Why can't we say "oh, he isn't asking to undo Posse Comitatus, so it isn't that bad".

You know C-Span has a competition on topics like that. Are they grooming future automatons too?

Is the fear that Obama will brainwash them all before the conservatives get a chance to teach them to do the "Lockstep to a collapsed economy" on the theme of Tax Cuts?

Republicans just seemed to be proactive, while democrats were reactive. At least according to this:

A teacher, calling a Tucson radio station, stated with glee that their school's audio/visual equipment failed and the Obama speech was not heard by the students. She thanked god for his divine intervention.
I attribute the failure of that equipment to the fact that it is crappy and old.
I guess that teacher is not willing to help the President educate our kids.

That teacher should be tarred and feathered. Must have been some right wing indoctrinating religious school.
