Posted By TimALoftis 2 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsWASHINGTON - The nastiness of August's health care debate reached into the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday as President Barack Obama tried to move his reform plan forward.
South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted, "You lie!" after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants.

That was truly a stunning moment for me.

Is there any more evidence at how completely depraved the Modern Republican has sunk?
Unchecked Emotion ... Runaway Passion ... Rage ... ... it's how they are defined.
And ... apparently ... they are okay with that ...
In fact ...
I think they are actually filled with pride at their Irrational Rage.

What a whiner.
"I'm stunned...stunned I tell you. Why...I....[we pause while Goppy quickly reviews his Faux Indignation Theater Primer For Geriatrics...]...never!"
Ok, it's just me, but I think Goppy skipped page or two in his Primer. But still...We all know that Obama lied--or at least spoke falsely--on the issue of illegal aliens. So is Wilson the first instance we have of Congresscritters trying to embarass a president?
Well, friends, timing is everything. After all, Obama WAS inaugurated. Bush was TRYING to get inaugurated back when this disgrace happened:
*****
Washington -- The rancor lingering from the bitterly contested presidential election spilled over during a joint session of Congress yesterday, forcing Vice President Al Gore to gavel down black House members time and again in order to make official the election of his opponent, George W. Bush.
Congressional certification of the Electoral College vote is usually quick and routine. But nothing has been ordinary about the November election that will result in Bush's being sworn in later this month as the first president since Benjamin Harrison in 1888 to win the Electoral College but lose the popular vote.
Yesterday, for nearly 20 minutes in the cavernous House chamber, a dozen members of the Congressional Black Caucus, joined by a few sympathizers, tried in vain to block the counting of Florida's 25 electoral votes, protesting that black voters had been disenfranchised. Florida's highly contested electoral votes were key in Bush's victory after a prolonged legal and political battle following an inconclusive election.
*****
I'm not saying Wilson's methods are justified, but I'll be damned if I'm going to listen to a bunch of self-righteous whiners WHO KNOW their disrespect and rabid hatred of Bush for 8 long years STILL knows no bounds.
Sorry, Goppy. We get you. The pity is that YOU don't get you. -

That's because John McCain is a decent man. He's old school and still of the mind that just because someone is your political opponent doesn't mean he's your enemy. The days of that mindset are quickly drawing to a close and this is just another sign of that. There is no room anymore, it seems, for civility in civic life. It's really a shame that these people can't see the damage they are doing.

I honestly can't remember a time when the President was heckled on the House Floor that way. It was surprising, but not at the same time. Look at how they have encouraged their constituencies to act at Town Halls. The level of vitriol is at a fever pitch these days. All civility is gone from civic duty, and has been since the mid-nineties. From the time the President was grilled under oath for details of a ********, it's been a downhill slide since then. It's bad enough that one side or the other sits pouting as the President from the opposite side of the aisle makes their points, but when you have Senators and Congressmen who can't manage to keep their decorum long enough to allow the speech to conclude before screaming their retorts, it's time they lose their jobs. It's disgraceful the new lows to which our current civil leaders have sunk. They are an embarrassment, whether or not they or their supporters choose to accept that fact.

The outburst demonstrates just how partisan and rabid politics has become in Washington. I suspect that Mr. Wilson's challenger this fall is going to receive a few extra $$$ donations over the few days. Is Wilson's career over? I would not count on it. S.C. is very conservative and they might even go as far as rally behind him because of these comments. Time will soon tell

Tad, you have to read the whole bill and then be able to put two and two together. As you have shown there is no restriction on an illegal alien BUYING insurance from the exchange if they have the money and desire to do so. Beau has clearly shown that no funds can be used to subsidize an illegal alien purchasing insurance.
Reply
Say an illegal has been here twenty years, raised a family, bought a house and car and has a steady well paying job and decides he wants health care for his family. He would be able to buy a policy through the exchange but not get any government subsidy. That would be kinda like paying his own way in the world. And don't kid yourself that there aren't families like that.

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (42 U.S.C. § 1395dd, EMTALA) is a United States Act of Congress passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. ***It requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care to anyone needing emergency treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay.*** There are no reimbursement provisions. As a result of the act, patients needing emergency treatment can be discharged only under their own informed consent or when their condition requires transfer to a hospital better equipped to administer the treatment.

"Emergency Medicaid under HR 3200 --

Emergency Medicaid may pay for the care of unauthorized aliens, nonimmigrants, and LPRs
within the first five years of arrival (or longer if the state does not exercise the option to provide
coverage for LPRs after the five years) for emergency conditions if they meet the other eligibility
requirements of the Medicaid program.41 Specifically, aliens who are otherwise eligible for

receive “medical assistance under Title XIX of the Social Security Act ... for care and emergency

The Social Security Act is NOT H.R. 3200.
Reply
H.R. 3200 specifically forbids undocumented aliens from receiving payment from the government for the purpose of buying insurance, in Section 246, as mentioned above by fritz.
H.R. 3200 does NOT pay for undocumented aliens to receive treatment.
The Social Security Act of 1965 does do so, under its provision for emergency Medicaid. But the Social Security Act of 1965 is already law and is not part of any legislation under discussion in Congress.

hefaa1's description of Wilson as "another health care insurance company bought-and-paid-for townhall shill (aka brain-dead idiot)" says almost all.
I'd add only that he's also an uncivil ass, similar to Dick Cheney, who told Sen. Patrick Leahy to "F--- yourself" on the floor of the Senate. -

He's already apologized to the President. Of course, if he had just waited a little bit and had called the President a liar while on FOX News, there would have been no problem (at least where the President's opponents are concerned).

I think the President did a very good job, and Wilson just showed all the people how disrespectful and stupid acting he can be. I would not Dare show disrespect for the former president Bush after all he has but us though let alone show how stupid I could be on TV for all to see. Obama done very good and I was very proud of my-our President.

Calling President Obama a liar is as big an insult as throwing your shoes at him. Disrespectful and uncouth. Rep. Wilson has appropriately apologized so he should be forgiven for that, but the fact he still insists undocumented aliens are included in the health care bill, I can not forgive. He is either stupid or a cynical partisan hack.
