And didn't he lose over 10,000 uninsured people between last month and last night? What happened to those people?
Reply
That's the problem with always tossing out numbers to PROVE a point. In the long run those numbers fail you because either they are wrong now or they were wrong before. -

Prove that number of people dying because they were denied health care. That is always a foolish charge. Then you ignore the fact that your dear Obamasiah leied several times during his speech. This is only one of them. How can we trust what he says with all of the lies.

In this case a $220 billion a year program with 53 new bureaucracies added to the government controlling all aspects of health care insurance. NOT HEALTH CARE. How is this huge amount of money going to be paid? He lied. -

Where did you get your "numbers"?

Just for once, try providing documentation to back up your 'statements'.
Meanwhile, here are some documented statistics for you --
http://www.nchc.org/facts/coverage.shtml
Studies estimate that the number of excess deaths among uninsured adults age 25-64 is in the range of 22,000 a year. This mortality figure is more than the number of deaths from diabetes (17,500) within the same age group.

Amenable mortality rate, preventable deaths per 100,000 people, 2002-2003
United States: 110
Norway: 80
Switzerland: N/A
Luxembourg: N/A
Canada: 77
Austria: 84

What great speech? You mean the one where he is going "to call you out" if you say something wrong about the health care "bill"? The man would make a great comic if he had any humor about him. Great comic, lousy leader, but then he has had no practice leading anything, has he?

As a history buff with a little interest in current events I have to laugh at the wacky left who supported BO over Mrs. Clinton last year. A healthcare revamping could have drawn bipartisan support easily if its leader was adept at the art of diplomacy! This Obama guy doesn't have a clue policy wise in homeland iniatives or for that matter foreign affairs.

Some of this article is accurate, but some of it is not.

"How" health care reform will be paid for or how much it will cost has yet to be determined. All the cost (and how to pay for it) projections from BOTH sides are just that, and it remains to be seen what a final bill will look like and thus how much it would 'cost' the taxpayers.
- "Employers sponsor coverage for most families, and they'd be free to change their health plans in ways that workers may not like, or drop insurance altogether."
That happens NOW! I worked at FedEx for over 20 years - in the last 10, they have changed their health insurance coverage every year, raised the employee premiums, and either reduced services or added more cost to the employees for services.
Any employer can change employee coverage any time they choose, REGARDLESS of whether or not any health care reform legislation is passed. This is also true in regard to "changing jobs". There are already specific laws about changing insurance coverage (as an individual or via a new employer) with VERY specific clauses regarding pre-existing conditions. (you can find that info at www.dol.gov)
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/keep-your-insuran...
There will be some movement in how people get their insurance under the legislation in Congress – and Obama’s second comment acknowledges that. But his if-you-like-it-you-can-keep-it claim ignores the fact that employers may well choose to buy a different health insurance plan once any health coverage overhaul takes effect. In a late June press conference, ABC News’ Jake Tapper asked Obama about his claim, saying that employers might be attracted to a cheaper federal plan. Obama said: "When I say if you have your plan and you like it, or you have a doctor and you like your doctor, that you don’t have to change plans, what I’m saying is the government is not going to make you change plans under health reform."
- "Obama and congressional Democrats want to pay for their health care plans in part by reducing Medicare payments to providers by more than $500 billion over 10 years. The cuts would largely hit hospitals and Medicare Advantage, the part of the Medicare program operated through private insurance companies."
This is NOT correct.
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/more-senior-scare...
$500 billion is a gross figure that counts only proposed cuts while ignoring any increases, including a big increase the bill proposes in projected payments to doctors. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the House bill would result in "savings" of $219 billion after all increases and decreases are netted out. The House bill would trim projected increases in payments for hospitals, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and others, including home health care providers and suppliers of motor-driven wheelchairs. But it also proposes what CBO estimates is a $245 billion increase in spending for doctors, by canceling a scheduled 21 percent cut in physician payments. None of the "savings" or "cuts" (whichever you prefer) come from reducing current or future benefit levels for seniors.
It is correct that illegal immigrants will not be covered in any health care reform legislation. Republicans may be 'concerned' that "there are not sufficient citizenship verification requirements to ensure illegal immigrants are excluded from benefits they are not due". That is a valid concern. Meanwhile, about half of illegal immigrants have health insurance now, according to the nonpartisan Pew Hispanic Center, which says those who lack insurance do so principally because their employers don’t offer it.
Obama's estimate on the numbers of uninsured in America are likely more accurate than previously quoted, but they do take into account several factors, as noted in this Factcheck.org article --
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/06/the-real-uninsure...
Regarding "preventive" care, the CBO report is correctly quoted in the article.
http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/104xx/doc10492/08-07-Pr...
The CBO report also says, "In sum, expanded governmental support for preventive medical care would probably improve people’s health but would not generally reduce total spending on health care. However, government funding for some specific types of preventive care might lower total spending."-

That is where he does not answer the question, he just states that the people will not be "forced" by the government plan. As you said earlier in your comment, "Any employer can change employee coverage any time they choose, REGARDLESS of whether or not any health care reform legislation is passed." Yes, but will more employers change to the governments plan just to save money? If that is the case, then Obamas answer above is false. The plan will indirectly change your present plan and/ or doctor.

corl64 You are absolutely correct with your post. Obama is lying! Employers will flee to the government plan like rats from a sinking ship. Pelosi has admitted on tape that they may try to pass a bill with out "public option". BUT they will implement a "trigger" that will instill a "public option". The only way the government can create competition with insurance companies is with a "public option" that is cheaper than what the insurance companies offer. The government ISN'T concerned with being competitive, they are spending taxpayer money with no concern with being driven out of business. They will intentionally undercut insurance companies at a loss to the taxpayer and the government won't have to play by their own rules of state borders. It WILL lead to "single payer" then rationing and even denial if we don't agree with future dictator Obama and his agenda. The liberals posting here are either Obama sheeple or they really don't have a clue on reality. When their taxes skyrocket to pay for it or they are denied a life saving medical treatment they will know reality, but they will just keep blaming everyone but themselves. Just like they blame Bush now, I wasn't a fan of Bush, but they forget that Democrats controlled Congress and the Senate for the last four years of Bush. Where were they to save the country then! -
