Press Accuracy Rating Hits Two Decade Low - Partisan Divide Grows At Fox News, CNN Seen As More Favorable Than Fox News Or MSNBC »

The public’s assessment of the accuracy of news stories is now at its lowest level in more than two decades of Pew Research surveys, and Americans’ views of media bias and independence now match previous lows.

Just 29% of Americans say that news organizations generally get the facts straight, while 63% say that news stories are often inaccurate. In the initial survey in this series about the news media’s performance in 1985, 55% said news stories were accurate while 34% said they were inaccurate. That percentage had fallen sharply by the late 1990s and has remained low over the last decade.

Partisan differences in views of Fox News have increased substantially since 2007. Today, a large majority of Republicans view Fox News positively (72%), compared with just 43% of Democrats. In 2007, 73% of Republicans and 61% of Democrats viewed Fox News favorably. Three-quarters (75%) of Democrats assess CNN favorably, while just 44% of Republicans do so, which is little changed from two years ago.

What it really comes down to is, if you watch CNN and MSNBC you think that they are the fairest.

If you watch Fox, you think they are the fairest.

This indicates a preselected bias towards the source of the viewer.

      Partisanship and Cable Sources

Four-in-ten (40%) Americans cite a major cable news outlet (CNN, Fox News and MSNBC) as their main source for news about national and international affairs.

As in the past, comparable percentages say they rely on CNN (22%) and Fox News (19%) while fewer (6%) say they get most of their news from MSNBC.

There has been a gradual widening in the partisan differences in the viewership of both Fox News and CNN in recent years.

More than three times as many Republicans (34%) as Democrats (10%) say they get most of their national and international news from Fox.

By comparison, Democrats are more than twice as likely than Republicans to cite CNN (29% vs. 13%). A similar pattern is evident for MSNBC, with more Democrats (9%) than Republicans (3%) citing it as a main news source.

      The headline is incorrect.

It should read: "...CNN Seen As More Favorable Than Fox News Or MSNBC by rabid Progressive Liberals".

The left is coming unglued right before our eyes.

      I Love It!!!!

Make no mistake about it...people are increasingly gravitating toward news sources that they politically agree with instead of the few outlets out there that try to play it down the middle. The subject of politics dominate the cable channels with both Fox News and MSNBC devoting practically there entire late afternoon and evening programming to it. Glenn Beck, Chris Matthews, The Ed Show, Bill O'Reilly, Keith Olbermann, Sean Hannity and Rachael Maddow all run very politically partisan programs. Word has it that a Sarah Palin show is just around the corner for Fox as well.

The Cable Networks spend very little money or time developing and creating documentaries that educate...instead creating programs that are filled with nothing more than 'Opinion' instead. Fox News and MSNBC is nothing more than 'Talk Radio' on TV. No wonder our country has become so polarized.

America deserves better. In the meantime, I will stick to my PBS News Hour.

I'm sure the liberals got this "poll information" from WishfulThinking.com. I know the last Nielsen Ratings had FOX News way above all the others combined. I think CNN and MSNBC scored in the high 20's and low 30's. FOX News is like a shining oasis in a sea of liberal arrogance and elitism.

foxnews still gets trounced by Nick at Night.

and all of cable news gets trounced by the big 3 (abc, nbc, cbs) nightly.

whats clear is...america isn't looking to cable as its main news source (except for fow viewers maybe. but then they're not really looking for news, they're looking for all of their fears and hatreds to be echoed back to them in a news-style format).

Overall the credibility of the press is at an all time low and like many factors it mimics society as a whole. Our population has gotten dumber. And so has the press. Many journalist don't even do their homework and research their facts and their ignorance shows. There are still some good, credible, intelligent journalists but none can be found at Fox News.

Fox is the voice of the Republican party. MSNBC is the voice of the Democrat party but to a lesser degree. All CNN want are arguments so it is basically neutral. As long as peole are shouting, they are happy. None of them give a true version of the world; their viewers are given what they (the viewers) have already decided to be the truth. PBS is the best by far.

            ABC= All By Comrades
NBC (owned by GE who is kissing Obama but as we speak) is Nothing but Comrades
SeeBs (you mean the people who created fake news stories under Bush are better news people?)
CNN which covers up for Obama, the Communist News Network.

Here's one for you: Which of these has covered the ACORN "ho" scandal...:)
