"Employing the most ugly and persistently untruthful political slurs about crucial public policy questions along with ugly and false personal character assassination in furtherance of a bigoted and feudal political agenda that couldnever exist on the meritsabsenttheir relentless tsunami of calculated lying, would not in any rational environment be considered even remotely as "entertainment".-

It's not about conservative views and free speech. It's about a relentless bombardment with half-truths lies and hate speech. This kind of free speech shouldn't have such a grand soapbox in an educated society. It is a travesty that this type of radio hate has such a large portion of the radio airwaves. It certainly shouldn't be classified as entertainment. Let's call it like it is...hate propaganda.

Conservatives like to hide behind the "free speech" ammendment to brandish their form of hate against others as a political weapon. Most often when their radio show idols are called on it, they say, "Oh, they're just entertainers". I guess in their minds by removing their journalist credentials it makes it alright to behave outrageously and hide behind the constitution. I think talk radio has moved radio news into a small corner of the market. Now in order to get news you have to sift through piles of opinion. Opinion that is many times inflammatory and caustic.

What allowed the loons to broadcast (like beck and limbaugh) is Raygun kncoking down the Truth in Comminications act. They can broadcast all the lies they want and stations dont have to allow equal time to opposing views. The right loves to harp on that it would restrict what stations and broadcasters can do. Yeah after being shown to be corporate mouthpieces and lieing to the public they would lose appeal and the right would be at a loss for spreading discontent. I do believe its importnat to allow the loons ont eh right to continue to broadcast most sane and rational people are getting fed up with the right , the left needs to push thru a truth in Comm bill to allow the true facts to come out.

Comparing commentator to commentator one for one, right-wing commentators own the airwaves hands down. There is occasional liberal problems, but not on a scale that we have seen with conservative commentators. I don't know if that is related to overall market share or not.

Just like Nigerians with their bank account scams, people get suckered everyday. We crack down on Nigerian scammers, but we let this type of persuasion continue under the auspices of free speech. Free speech is fine to a point. How many people could stand to be called names and be made fun of if the accuser was right there in their face? I think it's easy to say obnoxious things behind a microphone to someone, but takes a little more balls to say it in person. Free speech that maligns people or induces hate to the point where people could be harmed as a result should not have disproportionate slice of the radio air waves. The genocide in RWanda was in large part fueled by radio. There was a constant degradation of the people until people felt no reservation about killing people like dogs in the street. This may be an extreme case, but there have been killings by a few nutcases that owe their allegiance to the like of Glenn Beck, Savage, and Limbaugh, Hannitty etc.

We've always had the right to comment and complain about the government. Nothing should ever get in the way of that.

We have lousy government, driven by both sides and if we limit discussion of what they are doing, we endorse our own demise. -

Of course people should be allowed to say what they wish in whatever medium except for hate speech--bigoted speech attacking or disparaging a social or ethnic group or a member of such a group--and talk that causes immediate danger.

Testify, brother Jovial! We progressives must work together in nullifying any dissidence to our noble quest of expanding the state, minimizing economic freedom, and subjugating the individual to the masses!
Reply
You and I are well aware that our ethics, principles, and ideals are the ONLY ones! It's not enough that WE believe them, others must be surreptitiously coerced into seeing the light! No one can be trusted with their own mind or judgments, so we must make our voice the ONLY voice!
The first amendment is certainly a hurdle...but we'll find a way to circumvent that in the guise of "fairness" and "equality"! -

To the lefties out there complaining about talk radio spreading hate news. Well I have to put up with TV shows depicting GAY's and LESBO's on most networks. I oppose this. BUT you know what, I have the option to turn the channel. Why dont you do the same and SHUT UP!!

Evidently, someone needs help scoping out blight, they skimmed right over NBC,and all their affiliates,ABC who is less than honest, and truthful, and last and least is the failed, and always biased CBS network.Talk radio is about the only medium left for real Americans to listen to,by the way for the left wing moronic pin heads on the left of your radio is the off,and on button,on the right side is a similar button for station selection. Now what was it thats bugging you.

One problem with free speech is the neocon mindless masses don't know how to hit the off button. We often see extreme opinions posted on Propeller that someone picked up from one of these neocon hate radio shows. And with so many on the right not being intelligent or educated enough to filter out the nonsense we have a voting public making stupid choices.

A good example is Bush's war in Itaq. How many people still beleive Iraq had WMD's? Or have forgotten that was why we went over there? -

"This culture of relentlessly dishonest and utterly ignorant pure hate which is ubiquitous all over low-brow, [left-wing MSM] is nothing other than Vile Poison, even though [left] wing apologists try to cosmeticize this swill as merely "entertainment".
Goodness, how quickly some forget the "Vile Poison" aimed at Bush. No one called him a "liar" (loud enough to be heard) from the House floor during his 2005 SOTU but there were certainly boos and unkind remarks. And there were countless other times when members of Congress accused him of much worse than lying.
The left shows zero tolerance for criticism when it is directed toward their guy.
(jeez, I hope Maureen Dowd doesn't hear "boy" instead of "guy" ;)
