Has Obama Backed Off of a Big Opportunity to Heal America's Racial Divide? »
Posted By Tumultuous 2 months, 2 weeks ago in Political OpinionAmericans began the summer still celebrating the dawn of a "post-racial" era. They are ending it under no such illusion. The summer of 2009 was all about race, beginning with Republican claims that Sonia Sotomayor, Barack Obama's nominee to the US Supreme Court, was "racist" against whites. Then, just as that scandal was dying down, up popped "the Gates controversy", the furore over the president's response to the arrest of African American academic Henry Louis Gates Jr in his own home. Obama's remark that the police had acted "stupidly" was evidence, according to massively popular Fox News host Glenn Beck, that the president "has a deep-seated hatred for white people".

Sotomayor is a racist and FOX News proved it. People like Jeremiah Wright and Van Jones aren't exactly open-minded individuals. They themselves have proven that. It's going to take a lot more people than Obama bin Laden to heal the racial divide. A lot more people from all races. It sure as hell won't come from the democrats. U know, the ones who always play the race card against those who disagree w/the "annointed one".

Wright's sermons weren't racist. Try actually listening to some instead of 3 seconds out of context.

The biggest problem is when GOP supporters make racist or thinly-veiled racist statements along with their criticism. That's why you're called racists. That and your vehement opposition to Obama based on nothing more than race. As exemplified by the most vicious, vehement, and disgraceful acts you commit on a daily basis against the office of the President.

balderdash.
as in: this article is typical alternet balderdash.
its as if they are using reverse psychology. by claiming racist bias, they show themselves as the aggrieved.
aggrieved by whom? when? over what?
sorry. the whole idea of these situations as being racist doesn't hunt. -

America is no longer a melting pot. In a melting pot all things are melted down, then cool and a new substance is formed, Americans are made. No longer are we melted down but remain to be hyphenated Americans. Until this changes we will never become one people. -

It seems obvious none of you read Obama's speech on race or if you did you are incapable of giving it a fair assessment. He was wrong on the Gates case. Obviously because he knew the professor personally. He deserved the brief smacking around he got but resolved the issue properly. Today he joins with the rest of us in calling Kanye West a "jack-ss". These issues shouldn't be a matter of race rather a case by case evaluation.

As a white male I have zero issues up to this point with Obama that would make me think twice about pulling the lever for him again in '12. After so many years of GOP dominance America did not prove to be a better place. Until you get some diversity and fresh thinking on your side I will not even consider voting Republican. Without it your party cannot properly represent all Americans. The Sarah Palin rally I attended was the end of the road for me on that issue. I looked around and thought WTF? Nevermind her use of "Redneck Woman" as her theme music. Truly repulsive.
