Romell Broom was seen sobbing as executioners at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in the United States repeatedly botched attempts to attach the IV tubes that deliver three lethal chemicals into the blood stream.
Eventually, two-and-a-half hours after Broom first approached the death chamber, he was given a week's reprieve by Ted Strickland, the governor of Ohio.

That's good advice, and exactly what I did. Your statement provided no qualifiers such as whether or not the state allows concealed carry or an option for life in prison or if the death penalty has ever been used, so my research is based only on your assertions in your post.
Listed below are all 50 states, the asterisk denotes capital punishment states, and the numbers are the number of murders per 100,000 of each states population. I've listed my source if anybody wants to check me, or do any further research.
I fail to see any correlation between capital punishment and the murder rate whatsoever. One way or the other. If you see a trend, please point it out to me.
