The woman, Tasha Hill, was entering the Cracker Barrel as West was leaving, and she asked him to "be careful" of the restaurant's swinging door hitting her child.

The racists in the Republican party would never elect a Black President. Don't hold your breath. And Slate, don't you get tired of being the only one that stands up for conservatives and decries the abuse of racism? If Newsguy had a story out right now saying a black man had assaulted a white woman under the same exact circumstances, do you think this post would have this few comments by now? I think not. They'd be tying it to union thugs, ACORN, and ultimately to Obama himself. I don't know though, it's only been three hours. Maybe they'll chime in and condemn this tragedy. Or maybe they'll just sink the story (like cherev) and make no comment at all. Or maybe they'll ignore the story altogether. Just remember if they do, they'll have no sympathetic ears from me the next time they mention Rev. Wright, Van Jones, ACORN, or any other racism post that they decide to use.

We know how you are with these ridiculous talking points. And we will now expect to see this repeated ad nauseum. It's no more accurate than Carter's blanket. Republicans have every right to disagree with Obama but most could be a whole lot more responsible with the type of information they use to justify their disagreement. That's where the problem lies.
No, not all Republicans are racists. But there is racism on both sides and mostly at the extremes. We all have racist thoughts. All of us! It is how you deal with these thoughts that shows your character. This is just a sickening story no matter which side you are on.

I don't know why anyone these days pull the race card except for ignorant people without educations! Someday soon color won't be an issue however I hope it will always be an issue for one person to beat another in such an evil way! For the "One Nation Under God" party it was a violent attack that could have been any woman because a man like that can beat for any reason. Why did his wife just stand there? She knows!

My oldest son had a problem with a black kid on the school bus last year (i only mention this because it is relevant)...My son is as laid back as they come,honor role,works in the community,football player,wrestler..and his little girl friend of the past three years just happens to be black...He was getting on the bus one day and this other kid told him he could no longer set in the back of the bus because it was now reserved for the "Brothers"..He did nothing that time.The next day he got on the bus and the kid got in his face,said he had been told that it was reserved and then pushed him..mistake !! My son took him down,dragged him to the front of the bus set him in the seat and expained to him that he would sit where he wanted...and went to the back of the bus and set down...He has never been bothered again..

Now was that a racial incident ?Was it just teenage boys ? For my son it was just an idiot that he had had enough of...Racism is an aquired mindset and all races have those that use that as motivation to harm and insult others..It is wrong no matter what side it comes from,but it is also something we teach our young.
BTW...the feds,nor the police were called even though it was racial in that one aspect...My son didn't have to resort to any derogatory name calling like the other kid did,he just took care of business the same as if it had been a kid of any race.

Please explain this "moral cause" you speak of...would imagine it is that same old "family values" rhetoric that has been the downfall of so many in your party. The same "moral cause" my governor carried to Argentina with him.
Funny, I don't recall seeing a single black person at the Palin rally I attended last year (other than a state trooper on duty and a maintenance man) and heard numerous racist comments about Obama in and outside of that event. A candidate that 70% of Republicans claim to support. And no one has even tried to explain why she used Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" as her entrance theme. Somehow I don't see many black women relating to that song as any sort of anthem.

I am a member of the GOP yet I like Pres. Obama. i don't like many of the polices the democratic party is putting in place, however I do beleive that the american people have spoken.
Barack Obama won the election fair and square. The policies and views of the sitting party is obviously what the majority want so lets get over the fact we don't always win. Hold it now ... I personally feel that billions of unnecessary dollars are being spent to keep Grandma alive just to feel the pockets of Drs and pharmacudical companies. I personally don't see why it is necessary to put new hips into hospice patients or replace 6-7000.00 wheel chairs every 2-3 years for the elderly. Nor is it in the best to prescribe dozens of medications to the elderly knowing that each medicine has its own set of side affects that cause the need for more medicine, all at the expense of You and I the tax payer.

I do believe we all deserve medical coverage and know full well most can not afford coverage. I do not believe we should cover people in the US that are not here legally, nor do I believe we should make abortion a tax payor burden except in cases of incest or rape. I believe that with the amount we all pay in taxes the government should provide health care to all. I do not believe there is more than one God, but I also believe a person should be allowed the freedom to believe whatever they choose to. So stop being STUPID. Don't put all GOP in a big bucket and think Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin speak for all of us. Some do think for themselves just as there are Democrats that really have a mind of their own -

The insurance companies are at fault as well as. I can't even get coverage because of preexisting conditions. I provide personal care to the elderly with our agency, and see the abuse of the medicare and medicad system daily. I am not kidding, we the people buy our elderly a brand new motorized wheel chair at the tune of 6-7000 each every 3 yrs even if the previous chair is in good working order.

Medicare and Medicad pays for it. We give the elderly medicines knowing full well it will cause horrible side effects that will require even another medicine. The healthiest clients we have are the ones that take little or no medicine. Believe me that would not be the case if the tax payor was not footing the bill -

I'm a democrat, but I'm very worried about how people are claiming republicans are racist. This piece of garbage is obviously a racist if he said what he said and did what he did. And yes, there is still racism in the U.S. The thing is, every race has its racists. It's not only that some whites are racist. There are also racist blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc....
