Fiasco - Why is Obama repeating Bush's Iraq mistakes...in Afghanistan? »

With the Iraq war spinning out of control in mid-2005, retired Marine General James L. Jones spoke with his old friend Peter Pace, the incoming chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Jones, who is now Barack Obama's national security advisor, had been sounded out for the Joint Chiefs job but demurred. One reason: He felt that civilian leaders in Washington were warping the military planning process. "Military advice is being influenced on a political level," Jones warned Pace, according to Bob Woodward's book State of Denial. Jones's warning squared with other reports at the time that U.S. commanders in Iraq felt pressure to keep troop levels low. Faced with a growing Democratic onslaught, the Bush White House was all too determined to pretend that the war was under control.

Uh, no, Obama is not repeating Bush's mistakes in Afghanistan. Afghanistan was not spinning out of control when Bush was president. These are Obama's mistakes all by himself.

If I remember correctly Bush was firmly in control in Afghanistan and the Taliban wasn't a problem. Obama bin Laden must be what? Screwing up? Probably. Perhaps Obama bin Laden is faced w/the same problems Bush was having. Obama must not be performing any tactical miracles that the democrats are expecting from him.

Answer: Because he kept all of Bush's people on the economic side and the military side. Yet the people that gave Bush rave reviews for his economic policies and war mongering are quickly distancing themselves from these policies.

Afghanistan was never and will never be under control. There are too many people in the world who would just like to kill American soldiers since they are doing the work of the elites who rule America. Like the Federal Reserve which is run by the Rothchilds, Morgans, Warburgs and Goldmans of the world. This is another reason why American foreign policy is always pro Israel

I am not amused that my President is ignoring one reason I voted for him. I thought that voting for Obama I was casting a vote for leaving the war - Iraq and Afghanistan. Billions would be saved and available for needed program funding at home. I was not only wrong but damn wrong. Failure to remove soldiers from this mess will color (did I say color??) my decision to vote for his reelection.

We blew it in Afghanistan years ago folks and aint nothin gonna ever fix it in our lifetime. The sad fact of the whole matter is that this, the whole Mid-East, Iraq, Afghanistan mess did not have to happen. By the end of the Russian Afghan war we (the US) had developed a strong and good relationship with the tribes and tribal leaders of Afghanistan. By giving them aid in their battle with Russia (aid which encompassed much in many areas) and through promises of continued aid after the war we had secured these people as friends and allies. Bush I started to renege on a few of those things when he took over for Reagan in that things were not forthcoming as quickly as all had hoped or been led to believe but it totally fell apart with Clinton. As part of Clinton’s purging and dismantling of our intelligence community everyone was pulled out, the funds ended, and the more radical of the people and leaders took that and taught that we had indeed used them in OUR enmity with Russia and then abandoned them as soon as they were no longer needed. And truthfully, how could they not see it that way?

Bin Laden dares us to get out of Afghanistan, so, because of that, we cannot get out.
