Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi was freed Tuesday spending nine months in jail for throwing his shoes at then-U.S. President George W. Bush during his last visit to Iran. One day later, on Wednesday, in the Iraqi province of Al Anbar, a Fallujah man was shot and killed after throwing a shoe at a U.S. army vehicle.

Yeah, the journalist that threw his shoes at then-president Bush was imprisoned for nine months out of his one-year sentence. He claims that during his incarceration, he was beaten and regularly mistreated. In fact, he got of easy compared to this guy. Goes to show, you don't bring a shoe to a gunfight.

Now having been in Afghanistan myself, carrying a .50bmg with fairly similar ROE, I have to admit that some man running up towards you with something dark in his hand that he's going to throw at you could easily, *very* easily be mistaken for an insurgent with a grenade.

I understand the frustration at being the victim of a war and an occupation, but unless you're going to be a 'freedom fighter' and fight the occupiers and suffer the obvious consequences, it's a much better idea if you're a civilian waiting out the occupation to keep a low profile and not do anything truly stupid. -

unome2,Maybe Obama will issue a new directive,you will ignore any,and everything that's thrown at you,unless you can read the writing on the projectile.of course it might be just a shoe,but you will have less than a nano second to escape death if its not a shoe.How ever your a soldier suck it up,and go out like a man.You are upsetting the leftist in America.
