Commenting on President Obama’s announcement that the United States would not continue to pursue its missile defence plans for Central Europe in their current form, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement in Berlin:

“I am glad that after today’s decision we now have the opportunity to have a new discussion with all partners on the issue of missile defense in Europe. From the very start I warned that, ultimately, we need more and not less joint security. That is why I always emphasized the need to find common solutions to common threats. The step taken by the Obama Administration today is a signal to all partners that the American Government is striving for such common solutions. That is the right way forward!”

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a possible Republican presidential contender in 2012, last night compared President Obama’s diplomatic moves on Iran, North Korea and the missile shield to pre-World War II and pre-9/11 “appeasement,” Politico reports. “The lessons of history are clear,” he told Christian conservatives. “Appeasement and weakness did not stop the Nazis, appeasement did not stop the Soviets, and appeasement did not stop the terrorists before 9/11.”

The foreign-policy arena is a notable area of weakness for Pawlenty, who won’t seek re-election in Minnesota next year, Politico notes, and he chose to address it at a gathering that will also host 2012 GOP hopeful Mitt Romney later this weekend.

referring to the other item on Propeller:

"Poland calls Obama's missile defense announcement treason"

A lot of (I guess "anti Obama" people), criticized Obama for his decision, saying he betrayed Poland and make him (Obama), the US (and Nato?) look weak towards Russia.

I did explained that Poland and the Czech republic, were the only ones in the EU who wanted and aplauded the system.
The rest of the EU was not happy with it.....
Poland is/was often taking side with the (GW Bush) US against the rest of the EU.
