I read through the many threads here where this comes up and see the same folks always claiming that they disagree only on policy and race has nothing to do with it and then see them criticize Michelle Obama for going to the farmers market and wasting taxpayers money because she has to have a security escort . Then I try to figure out what that has to do with Barack's policies and it it appears to me to be so obvious that there are ulterior motives involved.

Heck, I was raised in a somewhat bigoted family and I have racist feelings at times but at least I admit it and try to minimize them and look at things with an open mind. I must agree that most of us are leery of changes in our life, especially in these troubling times and some of it is multiplied by the perceived differences in cultures between whites and blacks.
If you look at the Obama family (with an open mind) they are the epitome of the American dream. Both come from humble backgrounds, both worked and achieved great successes academically, both reached out to return something to their community. They fell in love, married, raised a family and bought a house. All was good. They achieved the American dream but up until now it had been mostly a white dream. There are many that are simply unable to handle the new reality.

The more cruel the wrong that men commit against an individual or a people, the deeper their hatred and contempt for their victim. Conceit and false pride on the part of a nation prevent the rise of remorse for its crime. - Albert Einstein (1948)
