The U.S. "War on Drugs" is despised by almost everyone except for those who benefit from it (the DEA, prison corporations, paramilitary contractors, etc.). In South America, the War on Drugs is especially disliked for many good reasons, but to understand those reasons, you first have to grasp the importance of the coca plant and its history throughout South America.

95 million Americans have smoked cannabis at some time and 22 million have smoked it within the past year.

    Why is it still illegal?

Current laws serve only to ruin lives and overcrowd prisons.

    LEGALIZE IT!!!

Also worthy of note - South American farmers trying to grow a cash crop OTHER than coca or cannabis have had their crops sprayed with defoliants anyway.

Time to stop the insanity. You can't fight a "war on drugs." Drugs are inanimate. They can't and won't surrender. You can't shoot drugs and kill them. (you can shoot drugs, of course, in an entirely different sense, but that's unhealthy and not reccommended.)

All that the "drug war" accomplishes is the turning of our urban streets into war zones, the justification of a police state, the expansion of our private prison system, the ruin of young lives.

It's time to stop the insanity.
