Wilson's shout reopens South Carolina's racial wounds | McClatchy »
Posted By kellekrapache128 3 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsWASHINGTON — South Carolina's bitter history of racial politics has drawn national attention before, from Strom Thurmond's segregationist White House run in 1948 and the black daughter he never acknowledged to the Confederate flag flying at the statehouse and Bob Jones University's ban on interracial dating.
Now, 10 months after the election of a self-styled post-racial black president, two South Carolina politicians have helped to reopen the country's deepest, most festering wound and amplify a nearly four-century argument that President Barack Obama has made it clear he wants to avoid.

I don't think the majority of the country has a clue how very true your statement is. Basically, if its not backed by their individual church then its a threat and should be avoided at all costs. I've never encountered so many people who are proud to be ignorant in my life. Education is the enemy and they aren't afraid of saying so. These people cry about wanting their country back. Since when is our country one that embraces ignorance over education? Isn't one of the hallmarks of this country that we educate EVERYONE, not just the privileged? I guess they just want the country back before Lincoln came along and spoiled it for everyone with his whole "northern aggression" campaign against the perfect south, huh?

Your blind acceptance that his outburst was racially motivated is very disgusting. The story tauts a lie with out any proof ans so many people blindly think it is truth. Why? This is such a blatant lie.

What were the pool numbers after the election. What has Obama done after the election and as a result what has happened to his poll numbers. The bigger the deficit gets and the more changes he tries to push through a completely Democrat controlled Congress the worse the poll numbers get. What is blocking these programs right now? Not the Republicans because they do not have the power. The grass roots movements that showed up at the town hall meetings were some of those were Democrat by invitation only town halls. The tea party demonstrations that all the liberals try to trivialize have the pools at present saying that most of the people do not want their health care touched and also believe that Obama is pushing to hare for too many changes. They look at the rising deficit as a measuring stick about how bad it is getting.
Then you try to turn the opposition to Obama into racial reasons instead of economic and government growth ones.

I get it chip, Obama was lying, and using his position to lash out at all that oppose him. Someone needed to call odumba out during his hateful derisive speech. The libs are desperate. Their leader and party are failing the country miserably, and liberal incompetence is indefensible. Therefore, libs resort to playing the race card, the blame game, hateful behavior, and denial. What else can they do?

I agree , There was NOTHING racial about his yelling. He shouldn't had done it, BUT the fact is he feels the President was lying. Of course the left always plays the color card. Like I said before. Getting real old real fast. It will be like the boy that called wolf. When it REALLY happens NO one will give a hoot.

The lie is that illegal aliens will not be eligible for coverage under this plan. That is pretty simple and straight forward.
Reply
The whole liberal premise of health care reform is to get illegals covered. That is the TRUTH! The number of uninsured they continually quote INCLUDES illegals, then they say they want "EVERYONE" covered. Left wingers make no pretense of saying they believe that we should "take care of the laborers that work so hard for this country". I say send them home, and let American's have those jobs. If we stop all the welfare handouts- Americans will take those jobs. Get the welfare trash off the public dole and doing work that needs to be done. We don't need the illegals to do it when we have able bodied Americans collecting welfare.

Let's look at the "should be's" and "Actually are's"
Reply
In Reality: Illegal aliens are NOT NOT NOT eligible for coverage under this plan. To say otherwise is to willfully lie and decieve the sheeple. Shame on you.
In an Ideal World: Illegal aliens would be covered without question because then they don't goto the hospital for small illnesses and cost the taxpayer $5000 a head.
In reality: it is NOT an ideal solution to solve the illegal aliens going to the hospital problem by disallowing it. That makes us inhuman ******** who don't deserve the hospital care we're denying them. If there's an illegal alien who's shot on the boarder of Mexico and the US on the Mexican side and someone sees him and takes him to an American hospital to save his life, it's F*CKED UP AS HELL to turn that man away. -

The Washington Times reports that Barack Obama has finally concluded that Joe Wilson was right, and that ObamaCare presents a big problem in handling illegal immigrants. Fortunately, the White House has found a solution to the problem. No, they’re not going to beef up enforcement or require identification before receiving subsidies and services. They’re just going to offer amnesty so that no one’s illegal anymore:
President Obama said this week that his health care plan won’t cover illegal immigrants, but argued that’s all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.
He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered - a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.
“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. “That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.
Mr. Obama added, “If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”
Republicans said that amounts to an amnesty, calling it a backdoor effort to make sure current illegal immigrants get health care.
In other words, not only should everyone pay for Americans to get health care, we should pay for health care for those who came here illegally. That’s going to be a winning argument in 2010, especially in Blue Dog districts! We’re going to bust the budget and infringe on your personal choices, and we’re going to make you pay for insurance for illegal immigrants!
If a Republican had run an ad making those charges in 2008, the media would have called it a “smear”. If comedians used it in their act, it would have been a joke about GOP paranoia. The joke, unfortunately, is on those who voted for the Blue Dogs because of their supposed conservatism, and on those who voted for Obama because of his supposed centrism.-

Is there some documentation of this ??
If there is I'd like to see it.
I don't want to pay for a bunch of law breakers, anymore than I want to pay for the illegal war started by Bushes administration.
I don't favor rewarding people who broke the law to be here, it makes those who followed the laws angry, and makes the United States look weak and greedy.
Just like the war in Iraq does. -

And are you trying to be Rush Limbaugh in the way you represent Obama's position?
And you are apparently advocating a police state? Because that's the only way we make any real headway on the illegal immigrant issue. You get stopped without reason and asked for your papers. And this is an 24 hour cycle. Is that what you would advocate?
Truly this is already happening here in SC. It's call Operation "Rolling Thunder" and it is a conglomerate of law enforcement agencies that lockdown a certain section of interstate highway and discriminately pull over vehicles continually for hours. I got caught in the middle of this nonsense one day and saw that the majority they targeted were minorities. I watched a trooper tailgate an innocent old Indian man and his son for a few miles before backing off. The guy looked like he was going to have a heart attack as the trooper was about 3 feet off his bumper at interstate speed for a few miles. If they pull you over it is a complete bumper to bumper search. No need for a reason. It all seems completely unconstitutional. Yet the locals never object as inevitably these cordons dp lead to confiscation of drugs and illegal weapons and a occasional wanted person or illegal alien. The public loves our sheriff who organizes these events because he is a leading Christian in the community who could never do wrong.
This is where the lack of education leads. And if they get educated in school the churches make sure to strip away that secular belief over time. It's that or move out of state. Or as I have chosen live as a pariah agnostic in a land of fools. It's why Mark Sanford is still our governor, Jim Demint is a Senator, and a dead man once served as our senator. It's why 80% believe in creatonism vs. evolution. It's why we still proudly fly the Confederate Battle Flag. Right down the statehouse grounds from a statue of a Confederate doctor who once performed Dr. Mengele style experimentation on slave women. But praising Dixie is about heritage, not hate. Please don't misunderstand us!

"Clyburn, the highest-ranking African American in Congress, has cited Wilson's 1999 vote against removing the Confederate flag from atop the South Carolina capitol dome — Wilson was one of only seven state senators to oppose the move.
Clyburn also has cited Wilson's "membership in some groups that call into question his feelings about the whole notion of white supremacy."
Pressed about that claim Wednesday, Clyburn declined to repeat it. "I have said that over time that he became affiliated with groups. I didn't say 'member;' I said that he was affiliated with these groups," Clyburn said in an interview with McClatchy.
Wilson's campaign Web site lists the Sons of Confederate Veterans among numerous groups to which he belongs. The Southern Poverty Law Center doesn't include the Sons of Confederate Veterans among the hate groups it tracks, though a center analyst said about 2,000 SCV members are white supremacists.
Clyburn also said that Wilson made "very vile comments" in December 2003 when a Los Angeles woman, Essie Mae Washington-Williams, said she was the biracial daughter of Strom Thurmond, born out of wedlock to the late senator and a black, 16-year-old maid in his household.
Wilson, who served as a page for Thurmond early in his political career, said then that the former governor and segregationist presidential candidate was a personal hero. He called Washington-Williams' claim "a smear on the image that (Thurmond) has as a person of high integrity who has been so loyal to the people of South Carolina."
In a subsequent bow to historical accuracy, Washington-Williams' name was added to the list of Thurmond's children on a monument to him on the South Carolina Statehouse grounds."
Hmmmmmm ???
Seems to me this call into question Wilson's' motives for disrespecting the President of the United States of America publicly.
But it does fall in line with all the garbage these types of individuals will use.
I just hope that all the idiots out there who think Wilson was right. Realize what he opened up.
When your so called patriots speak, I really hope that people call them out on it calling them a liar in public.
Disrupting their right to be heard before comments can be
made !!!!
Now it is alright to disagree with the president. It is not alright to publicly disrespect the man while he is giving a speech, and the one disrespecting him is an elected representative of a State, city, county... of the United States of America.
What happened to the guy who threw the shoe at Bush ???
He didn't hit him, he was just calling him a liar so the world would see !!!
Yet, he was inprisoned. I thought he was wrong to throw the shoe at Bush, not because Bush didn't deserve it. But because he was the president of America. -

Ahh the scent of manure is in the air. Grab ahold of a political nothing and turn it into a hot potato because we can associate it to racism...woot there it is! It's like bringing Hitler into a conversation. Make something that is nothing about racism and you lose. Of course, I lose for bringing Hitler on board LOL!

Ignoring the festering raw wounds of your own party by bringing up the scabs of the other party is a weak argument. Your party is broken in ideas, morality and ethics. And continuing down this path of denial will eventually lead to third class status for our nation. Your party distrusts education and science, competency and compromise, and lack the ethical backbone to change.
