Support for soda taxes gained momentum when The New England Journal of Medicine released a report calling for a tax of a penny per ounce on sugary soft drinks--which could amount to a price increase of as much as 50 percent on a two-liter bottle of soda.

    I actually think that this is a good idea. It worked for cigarettes. And it would not really hurt me, as I now drink mostly diet drinks. And if the local vendors raise the price of my Diet Pepsi as a reaction to a tax being passed, then I will stop buying it altogether and go to either generic sodas or to either plain water or tea. No big deal to me.

      How smart can that be,swapping sugar for sodium.When you start getting nose bleeds from high blood pressure,it may be too late.Also all carbonated drinks will deplete the calcium in your body,then your body will start taking the calcium from your bones,causing a myriad of health problems you don't want.I recommend filter water,or juice.
