So now that North Korea and Iran are cooperating in missile and nuclear weapons we are to slash what we have and stop working on missile defense. Up till now we have had the opponents leaders like the USSR and China have a respect for their citizens that a retaliatory strike would kill a lot of people and that reigned them in. What we are dealing with now is two sets of leaders that are cooperating that have no care for their citizens. Iran special militants from outside of Iran do not hesitate to kill demonstrators and if a few extra get killed so what. N. Korea has people starving there while the leadership flies in the best food for themselves. Retaliatory strikes only scare them if they are caught in it. So we are stopping missile defense funding. Obama is insane if he thinks that he can be reasonable with these people. They will gladly sign anything and break it in a heartbeat.

Especially Muslims who have the example of Muhammad. Muhammad says that war is deceit and proved it in Medina while having a treaty for 10 years with the three tribes of Jews there. He attacked then one at a time after about 2 years and the last tribe having the men beheaded with the rest made slaves. He then made a ten year treaty with Mecca and in 2 years showed up outside the city with an army of 10,000. Convert or be attacked. DECEIT. Muhammad is the person ALL MUSLIMS ARE TO FOLLOW AS AN EXAMPLE. That is part of their religion.-

Our 'missile defense' systems can barely hit the side of a barn even when they're given a specific path and target. If even one nuclear missile got through, that'd pretty much be the end of civilization.
Destroying or retooling old, decrepit weapons is a good thing. We have the ability to destroy the world fifty times over. Why not get rid of old, dangerous technology in the world. We'll still be able to blow up the world 30 times over. No worries.

The USA and the Russians could cut their nuclear arsenals by 90% and still have more nukes than the rest of the world.If nations insist on having nukes,there is no need to have 10's of thousands of warheads.Several hundred modern accurate missiles,with one or two warheads on each,could obliterate any possible enemy.

Obama mentioning a future where America won't need nukes,is most welcome,it may only be rhetorical,but reveals he finds them ugly.He is the first president that doesn't seem to think of Americas massive nuclear arsenal, as a sign if virility and superiority.-

Obama isn't the first president who found nuclear weapons as vile. Nixon feared them, Ford hated them. Carter hated all things nuclear. Reagan proposed the original Star Wars weapons system to protect us against them. I'm sure if we searched Clinton and the Bush's were also against them. I truly believe all American Presidents would love to return to a time where they were no longer needed. But I can't see that anytime soon.

I think many people on both sides of the table forgot the terrible damage wrought by nukes. War too. Since Vietnam, we've only fought minor police actions. I fear what would happen to this country is we actually got into a major war where instead of losing a few hundred soldiers, we lose 5,000 to 10,000. I pray that never happens but in the back of my mind, with the way the media spins things, I have no idea how the American people would react. One president we have one soldier killed it's front page, last month was our bloodiest in over a year and I can't remember reading one article about it. Our media needs to be held accountable. -

I agree with a lot of comments. It is time to reduce many of our older weapon systems but we need to continue to develop new ones. Once again, Obama is prepared to reduce and cut our defensive capabilities with no one else joining our efforts. China has been increasing her military capabilities for years as has Russia. We need a very strong deterrent to protect our shores. Nuclear weapons, while a great danger has prevented many fights with the former Cold War forces. Mutually Assured Destruction, as evil as it is, prevented many wars. If we're going to make some plan to reduce weapons, we need our potential enemies to do the same. I suspect Obama will not have the abilities to convince the Russians or Chinese to join us. Neither nation seems willing to work with him, they see him as a very weak leader. I hope I'm wrong but with the postures both nations have taken, it's clear they don't like him nor do they trust his leadership.

Our Aegis missle defense is already the best system in the world and the new Lockheed system has been tested is even better.It is foolish not to continue developing better and better defense systems.The low cost of cruise missles that can carry nukes makes them easily affordable for terrorist.

that said, I'm MUCH more concerned about the state of Russia's nuke arsenal. that sh*t needs to be secured. and it should be a top priority.

I think as far as national security Obama will prove to be the worse president in our history. Dropping our good allies alligning with those we cannot trust weakening our defensive capabilities, Making crimminals out of those in the CIA that protected us by getting info to avoid another 911. This all in only a few months in office. I am very concerned what the next 3 years will bring.
