Several audience members reportedly walked out of Ms Palin’s speech 30 minutes before the end, citing “more important things to do” or describing the talk as “too partisan and too much like a speech at the Republican convention”.
One senior fund manager told The Times that the 80-minute lecture, and the lack of an opportunity to fire any questions at Ms Palin, was a disappointment. “You would think that with her team of speechwriters and a supposedly media-free environment Palin could have afforded to be either funny or thought-provoking, but she was neither,” she said.
The speech attacked America’s worsening fiscal position and condemned President Obama’s healthcare plan. Many Americans, she said, were not happy with proposed reforms that impinge on private enterprise. She has recently used her popular Fecebook [sic] page to express her opposition to the Obama plan, claiming that it would create “death panels” for old people.
Although the CLSA event was strictly off-limits to the media, one attendee remarked that the speech felt like it was carefully crafted for a global television audience, and amounted to Ms Palin’s setting out her policy stall for the longer term.
“This was about an obviously ambitious wannabe presidential candidate laying down a marker on her weak spot of foreign policy,” he said. “I think we are going to hear something very similar to this speech trotted out again in different places over the next months and years.”
Playing more obviously to a room full of investors, Ms Palin quoted Margaret Thatcher’s comment that there is no alternative to capitalism because it is the system that ensures the most prosperity for the most people. Market-based solutions, she said, must be allowed to improve US healthcare and she concluded that the US economy would “roar back to life” if the private sector were allowed its freedom.
Despite it being her first visit to China, Ms Palin had come armed with a range of forthright views on the Middle Kingdom and how it should conduct itself.

So you have no issue with the "death panels" private insurance currently hold when assessing a policyholders viability for specific procedures?
I hope all of you have a living will so that you don't have to have your ribs broken in order to resuscitate you and put you on life support. Medical science is wonderful but so is quality of life. Patients and their families need to be informed about their rights and how to prepare for the end. The idea that offering such information is the work of those out for your demise is incredibly ignorant. But that is Sarah Palin who clearly advocated such services until Obama and the Democrats proposed them. -

...well most of America knows the death panels was BS... even the corporate member who created the idea, lost her job when she couldn't even find the page in the bill that applies on the Jon Stewart show! You un-American and oath breaker, Comm!

So one lie just leaves you to believe the next lie in the chain too.... figures! Boy, you have no brain of your own ... just the lies you accept, how more un-American can you get?

They kept her under tight wraps during the

election; not without reason.
She does a decent prepared speech,
but bombs all free-form interviews.
Her audience can never be a hall of practical,
educated international business leaders.
She needs a talk show ;
- which means rush, beck and O'reilly are
just going to have to share some air time.
I am sure they won't mind.-

I'm not sure I agree that she even does a decent prepared spech. Her speech at the Republican convention was horrible. I actually liked several things about McCain but knew from a point about halfway into fer first speech that I was voting for Obama.

Sarah Palin cut her state budget by 10% while maintaining a rainy day fund of savings amounting to billions of dollars. A true conservative, she turned down a $25K pay raise and sold the state jet. Obama could learn much from her about executive leadership.
Reply
She is a staunch advocate of a strong national defense, fiscal responsibility, low taxes, and small government. All of which is anathema to labor unions, welfare recipients, and those with limited education who depend on a nanny state.
Of course you hate her. She is the anti-Obama.

Reactions to Palin’s speech in Hong Kong:
Reply
“The speech was wide-ranging, very balanced, and she beat all expectations,” said Doug A. Coulter, head of private equity in the Asia-Pacific region for LGT Capital Partners.
--
“She’s definitely a serious future presidential candidate, and I understand why she plays so well in middle America,” said Mr. Coulter, a Canadian.
--
Mr. Goodé, an African-American who said he did some campaign polling for President Obama, said Mrs. Palin mentioned President Obama three times on Wednesday. “And there was nothing derogatory in it, no sleight of hand, and believe me, I was listening for that,” he said.
Mr. Goodé, a New Yorker who said he would never vote for Mrs. Palin, said she acquitted herself well.
“They really prepared her well,” he said. “She was articulate and she held her own. I give her credit. They’ve tried to categorize her as not being bright. She’s bright.”

The left fears Palin, Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, Gingrich, Beck, Coulter, but like and trust Pelosi, Reid, Biden, Barney, Schumer, Dodd, Rahm and Obama.

The unique part is that NONE of the feared individuals are even in Government and have "no say" on anything that happens.
The ones they like, however ....-

Simon, you're very correct. Most are entertainers. If you don't like them, change the station. Too bad libs can't read the handwriting on the wall. With what we're seeing on the grass roots level, it's going to be a shocker. The next election will be a massive slaughter for the Dems.

That's just what they said about Reagan in the '76 primary leading up to Carter's victory. The media considered him finished. Don't count the lady out yet. She's young and won't have to deal with McCain's team of chimps. That's why you've been hearing so many negative stories about her. Romney hired many of them for his 2012 run. Mit is as big a jerk as most of McCain's team is so they should work well together. Mit is damaged material as far as the GOP is concerned. He's big money, flashy used car salesman looks are not the base of our party. He's got another problem, he's a Mormon. There are many on the conservative side that will never support him. He's flipped a couple of times on abortion. The health care that have in Massachusetts is killing the state and will either fold or ask for tons in Federal funds. That's his baby. So as far as most of the GOP feels, he's dead in the water and going down.

I am sorry to disagree with you but it is the dems that are keeping her in the press. I am not sure what it is but the dems seem to be very afraid of this woman. They seem to have a need to try to destroy her before the next pres. election. If the dems really thought she was a has been with no power surely they would be pointing thier attention toward other people or things. This is not the case though.Sorry but thats just the facts. T

injest, thanks for highlighting some of the many Bush/repug evils from the past... all overcome with media failure to confront dumya and his "if you are against me you are with the terrorists" argument! Yes, Kofi and Dashle both rightly called Dumya a "war criminal", and lost their jobs as a result! How about Gen Shinsheki or Valerie Plame....

How about all the repug fear-mongering and lies? None of it came true! Sadam WMD & al Qaeda ties, Iraq to greet us as liberators, their oil to pay for the war, , we've turned that corner, mission accomplished, no overseas prisons, we don't torture..... and now the same fear-mongering lies on healthcare...
No wonder your last pres will go down as the worst in 100 years! And, now all you do is take your cues from un-American personalities like Beck, hannity and Limball? -

Well, I love her. She speaks clearly, and has love and pride for America and its history that has been successfully undermined by political forces that I don't understand and certainly don't trust. We need someone like her who hasn't drunk of the anti-American brew that's been served for the last few generations at our schools and universities and abundantly consumed by our youth and our celebrated personalities. We have become ripe for the erosion of our national identity and direction by a misguided and likely sinister forces.

When the Dixie Chicks went to a foreign country and criticized our president and government policies, the neocon base lost its collective mind....charges of treason were levied, boycotts were called for, vile songs were sung...all in response to a country music group disagreeing with our president in a foreign land.
