President to Deliver Tough Words to International Community »
Posted By Newperson 2 months, 3 weeks ago in Political News"Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world cannot now stand by and wait for America to solve the world's problems alone. We have sought, in word and deed, a new era of engagement with the world," the president will say. "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges." As he details this morning how the United States is acting to confront global challenges, the president will have some tough words for Iran and North Korea on their pursuit of nuclear weapons. The message to Iran is it has a choice," Susan Rice told "GMA." "It can uphold its international responsibility, abandon nuclear weapons or face more pressure from United States and others." White House officials say Obama will "detail the priorities of non-proliferation, peace and security, climate change, and global growth and development." Obama's first address at this forum will be closely watched by both his rivals and allies in the audience, a group that includes Iran's defiant leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and countries that have long supported him, including Russia and China.
The president met Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and conveyed his frustration to the leaders. "Simply put, it is past time to talk about starting negotiations, it is time to move forward," Obama said in a news conference after the trilateral meeting. "It is time to show the flexibility and common sense and sense of compromise that's necessary to achieve our goals.Officials say the president gave a "hard push" and expressed impatience to both leaders for failure to take enough steps to resume peace talks.

America is America, not the United States alone. There in Washington...words have become cheap at best...and do not represent our actions.
Reply
Oboma appears more like some clown still running for office when he's already elected. Trying to drum up support and still not represent us or follow our law or Universal law.
As for his speech...I'll wait(not being influenced) for the actions. It is not half time at a football game with the home team behind.
Sorry...but put better things between those ears...LOL -

I think our responses scared many of our enemies and potential enemies. Look at our initial strikes on the Taliban. No other nation could do what we did. At the same time we're bombing their militias we're dropping food stuffs to the civilians. We need to clarify the mission, establish an honest government and get the people to buy in that this is truly their nation as a whole and end the tribal feuds. Another issue, the poppies. For a nation controlled by religious zealots I can't figure out how they grow the poppies. We need to show them a better crop and how to farm. Perhaps sending the Americorps in would be an option....

I hear a lot of pretty words but he has no backbone nor does he have a functioning international policy. Our EU partners don't trust him. Many of our Asian friends don't trust us. Israel, Iraq and Afghan leaders don't trust his word. So who exactly does he think he can impress? The Russians and Chinese?

I think we're seeing the rebirth of the new Vietnam in Afghanistan. Not enough troops, restrictions and new policies for engaging the enemy and now we want international support. I think President Obama just agreed to being a one term president. America doesn't like losers.-

Afghanistan like Nam ???
We had troops in Nam. We had firepower in Nam. We had the ability to win in Nam.
We had no political backing in Nam. We had a bunch of people who didn't want to commit to winning the war and left our soldiers as sacrifices for the stupidity of American policy !!!!
Nam was all about the money, just like all the other crap that has been happening since WWII.
So don't go comparing the wars based upon man power or deaths.
Bush should have been a no term president and we wouldn't be in the disastrous situations we are in right now !!!!
You are right America doesn't like losers !!!! Look at how much they still despise the lunacy of the last presidency !!!! WE despise the lousy ways of the Neocon Bush and his Fascist crap !!!!!!!!!!

"The president is exploring alternatives to a major troop increase, including a plan from Vice President Joe Biden to focus more on rooting out al Qaeda and the Taliban on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, a strategy that could entail reducing troops.
"We're going to look very seriously at the circumstances on the ground, both political, security and economic, and how to best accomplish the goal of disrupting, dismantling and defeating al Qaeda," U.S. ambassador to the U.N., Susan Rice said on "Good Morning America" today. "The circumstances in Afghanistan are complex and evolving in the wake of the elections. It would be foolhardy for the United States and its partners not to take account of the circumstances as they evolve and adjust our goals accordingly."
In a reception hosted by the first couple this evening, Obama will thank the countries contributing the most troops and police forces to the U.N. efforts in Afghanistan, which include Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, Italy, Pakistan, Rwanda and Uruguay.
In an interview Tuesday at Fortune's most powerful women summit, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice underlined her view of the consequences of failure.
"The last time we left Afghanistan, and we abandoned Pakistan ... that territory became the very territory on which al Qaeda trained and attacked us on September 11. ... It's that simple," she told Fortune. "If you want another terrorist attack in the U.S., abandon Afghanistan."
Well it seems as though we have the forces in the government trying to out do each other again.
Politics will solve nothing, they will just allow the situation to get worse.
The Taliban, al qaeda, Iran, North Korea, Iraq, Pakistan... These are all symptons of a larger problem.
They are symptons of countries and groups of people who no longer want to accept the propaganda spewed forth by nations that claim a moral superiority. Yet act as if the very moral superiorty they claim allows them to destroy and kill those whom they think threaten them.
We are rapidly approaching the point of no return, where we will have to respond in such a way as to open up a can of destruction that will not favor any.
We have warned, we have pleaded, we have shown weak efforts at suppressing the terrorists around the world. It is coming to the time when all will bemoan the insanity of the terrorists and the blood they caused to be spilled.
And yes !!! I'm including the terrorists in this nation as well.
Speeches are great if ya enjoy hearing words that are meant to soothe the masses, while doing little to actually change the situations.
Lets get down to the bottom line. We can't continue to allow the world to spin out of control at the hands of the terrorists any more.
It is time they be taken out. Hard, fast and clean. No more dancin' !!!! -

I believe Obama will be hurting our elation with Isreal. Also one thing that really worries me is that in his speech which reflects his leftist ideas he stated about the problem of over population. Is he planning on reducing the population? There are extremist in America who have advocated this. Like I said I dont know his plans but this president and his appointments worry me more and more each day.

Kinda sounds like the appeasement factor carried out by prime minester chamberlain in world war 2. You can talk tough all day long as a politician and it won't get you anywhere. The fact is that obama is a push over he has nothing to really threaten with he can't tell iran or north korea to stop with a legitimate reason why..." don't do that you'll get a slap on the hand kim jong..." all it says is that he is trying to make a cover for is in-ability to be a president and still look good for the media, the demacrats, and the millions of mindless morons that voted for him. oh we can change alright to the weakest nation in the world... way to go america you got exactly what you asked for... another crappy president.

I think Obama should repeat the same thing what Bush said. Either you are with us or with the terrorists. And he is telling the world that we can have any weapons that we want but you can't have them because you are not civilized, you can be considered civilized only if you do what we do.
