We’re no more prosperous than we were during the previous Republican years, we’re certainly not safer, and neither are our freedoms. So, what did we get?

..probably not worth it to read lies and deceptions... to answer Blat: we got a president who has only had just over 8 months to overcome 8 years of Repugs ruining the country and the world!
Reply
Depression, 2 wars (one preemptive), lowest world image, laws broken both US and international, Constitution violated.... at least Barack is working on all of these unlike Dumya who complained that it was hard work just to try and do one thing at a time!
Meanwhile all the bigots don't want him to spend to get us out of the Depression ( our highest priority) quicker! We can worry about the deficit that the repugs tripled in the 80s and Dumya got to 11 trillion, later! You repug bigots never complained about trickle down economics before, but do now with a black president worrking his tail off for you!

Actually, I didn't want a liberal government, but I got one anyway. It's sad though when even the conservatives didn't have a conservative Presidential candidate to vote for. I voted for a conservative Vice-President. That didn't succeed either. ;^)

You didn't get a liberal government. In Obama what you got is another "hired hand" of the oligarchical class. They simply changed the propaganda from "compassionate conservatism" to "change" to rope in the gullible. The tactic has paid off in spades for them since we are now continuing most of the Bush policies whilst paying off the robber baron class with trillions in public money.

fillyfan, don't give up on capitalism. It works, but it requires consumers do their part too. Too many of our citizens have become fat and lazy with too much money to spend and they willingly pay whatever price is asked for anything they want. Parents aren't teaching their kids to make smart purchases, possibly because the parents don't make smart purchases.

Big corporations are usually the bogey man to leftists, but somehow footballers and basketballers who are HIGHLY overpaid for no production whatsoever, but they get a pass from the left. The movie and music industries make terribly wealthy people who do nothing but pretend. Yet people cheerfully pay big dollars to see or hear them. Obviously they believe it is worth the money - otherwise they'd keep their money in their pockets.
Why do people do this, then complain when something they don't even understand happens? Somehow it has become chic to place the public's laziness and stupidity on that nebulous "Big Business", "Corporate Greed", "Filthy Oil". The public, under the tutelage of the Democrat Party, has had as much to do with the problems we face today as do any of your bogey men, maybe more. Thank the Democrat Party, but don't blame capitalism. Capitalixm is not the enemy. It is what has put us as high on the totem pole as we are. Tossing it is one of the most deadly things this nation could do. -

That's how our democratic-republic works. I didn't want the Silver-Spoon and Darth Vadar but we had to deal with them for 8 long, bloody years.

If "the '50's" had finished the worthwhile job they started, we wouldn't be in the pickle we are today. But the darkness I see on this page in leftists was deeply at play at that time, and could then, as now, fight dirty to win. And they succeeded.
Reply
I watched that happen in the '50's, escalate in the'60's and total decadence and ill will has flourished since, constantly getting worse. What blows me away is that now these same people who stopped the needed action in the '60's are calling the results of their decadence "fat cats". What a bunch of hypocritical human debris!
fillyfan, I'm not directing this at you in particular, but predominantly at those on the left who are hateful little Democrat echoes.

As usual another red herring submitted by batsh!tcrazy22. FTR a Socialist Government owns the means of production meaning factories, public utilities retail stores etc. Although these cons would like us to believe that is what our esteemed President is trying to do nothing that he is doing is even close to making this country a socialist nation.

- but the FreshConservative Spookhouse is open for business!
A cloaked figure with a red 'B' drawn backwards
on his forehead, takes your 5 bucks at the gate.
The door creeks open like the jaws of a skeleton
from the 1950's testifing to the house committee
on UnAmerican Activities.
You enter to canned laughter, mechanical and dead
as the laugh-track to a canceled sitcom.
From the chandelier, a body swings from a rope;
it's a dummy dressed in red, white and blue labeled
uncle sam . "Suicide? or murder..."
wonders an unseen voice.
You shrug and move on through a dark hall.
And at the far end of the room,
in a chair,
in the shadows ,
wearing a sheet over his head,
is bttatman22 .
He has a flashlight which he holds under his chin.
"Socialism..." he groans. "Socialism...".
This goes on awhile.
Suddenly he jumps up!
"Liberals Obama Biden Pelosi Boo!"
- and a guide steers you out the
side door and you are out of the spook house.
You shiver in horror as you realize:
you just got ripped off for 5 bucks. -

The attack by conservatives against this government is unprecedented. The same government that has been a part of American history since George Washington. A childish bunch that wants to de-construct the Government of the United States, because they lost a crucial political battle, the presidency. The constant bantering about Socialism and communism reminds one of the McCarthy era. As long as we were constructing Democracies across the world and funneling billions of dollars into other countries these people were so silent. It was only after the government decided to start working on the infrastructure of this country did the alarm go out that the government needed to be stopped at all costs. They believe the exploitation of other countries in the name of building democracy is more important than a sick person right here in the United States. They believe handing out hundred dollar bills on the corner of a city street in Baghdad is more important than education and giving kids in our own country school lunches. They believe developing new weapons that burn people alive or kill people with stealth and accuracy are more important than regulating industry. Such a tragic comedy this conservative movement in this country.

That is easily explained and can be laid at the feet of your esteemed president. The massive government and expanded Presidential fiats are, in your words, UNPRECEDENTED, and everyone who appreciates history does not like what he is doing. So, if you'd like to see conservatives shut up, call your esteemed president, tell him to get off his little pedestal, become Presidential, and do the job we paid him for - we don't pay him to confiscate the country. -

Its not the governments constitutionally mandated duty to meddle in economic affairs aside from levying taxes. However, maintaining and funding the military is one of the federal governments primarily responsibilities outlined in the constitution.
I don't know of any reasonable conservatives or liberals who wish to "deconstruct the government of the United States". That being said, all americans should be apprehensive of the intervention we have seen in the economic sector by the last and current administrations, and always hold our government to the standard set in the constitution regardless of which party is in power.

Being that the word and concept of "Socialism" has nearly unlimited possible variations and meanings, including the very concept of Democracy and a Democratic Republic and that our Constitution begins with the words "WE THE PEOPLE", it is impossible for us to NOT BE, IN SOME FORM, A SOCIALIST NATION. Even one based on Free Market Capitalism can be called "socialist". That I will accept.
Reply
What I cannot accept is the singular perversion of Socialism which the Republican Party is so hard up to instill in these United States...NATIONAL SOCIALISM.
What we as American Citizens need to do is ensure that the socialism that IS the United States of America remains constantly in flux, constantly challenged so that a Big and Oppressive Government does not overstep the freedoms demanded by We the People.
This is where the current crop of Neo-Con Republicans separate themselves from the American People. They are for BIG GOVERNMENT in the guise of Corporatism. They want the Big Government bureaucracy to take the form of a massive and unrestrainable beast under the unregulated guise of "free enterprise". Thing is, they have nothing but contempt for "free enterprise". Those who run this Big Government scam have convinced the peons under their sway (such as the mouth breathers here on Propeller) that over taxing the American public through "user fees" and special, no-bid contracts paid out to NON-U.S. registered Corporate interests is "free enterprise" while at the same time restricting and destroying the American small business...or, Free Enterprise. For evidence of this, please gauge the health of the American Small Business through the 6 years wherein a Republican Super-Majority held all branches of government. You will see that the American Small Business, during this time, has suffered greater than at any other time in American history.
What is truly grotesque is that during this time, the Republican Super-Majority, has also grown the size of Government greater than at any other time in history as well.
And still no Neo-Con Republican apologist has yet been able to tell me when the last time a Republican has EVER reduced the size of government.-

Well said. Very well said. I would also like to know conservative positions on:
Reply
• World War II, and immense federal system (40% of GDP). So do you oppose WWII?
• The Federal Highway system, an expensive federal government program from a Republican president
• The Star Wars defense system, a boondoggle of epic proportions, a failed waste of billions of dollars pushed hard by a Republican president, and not just any president but St. Ronald himself.
• The Savings and Loan bailout, billions of dollars wasted to cover the failed ideologies of the aforementioned St. Ronald and George I.
• The Iraq War (based on false premises), the Wall Street bailout (billions to cover the failed ideologies of both St. Ronald and W.), the $1.6 trillion rich man's tax giveaway from George W.
And these are just the single biggest and most obvious ones. Oppose Obama's plans if you wish, but understand that they are a drop in the bucket compared to just what past Republican presidents have done. Where was the outrage then? Where were the tea partiers? Oh, that's right, they were busy voting and making excuses for the conservative tax-and-spend crowd. -

Excuse me, but how do you do Socialism without Force? You must be prattled on in the belief that Force is moral and good and okay, just as long as is done by government. Otherwise force by a person is a crime which will be prosecuted and then jailtime.

This guy, the American Thinker (sic) and World Net Daily have managed to spew out more pollution than a 3rd World Country since Obama came on the scene. Before that the attacks focused mainly on Hillary.
Reply
They have little to no understanding of the political and economic systems with which they try to slander him. Nor do their readers. But of course this is all meaningless. And I suppose it is a reaction to the failure of the free market and capitalism. Which did indeed fail. That doesn't mean they are unworkable systems (like those listed above) it simply means that you can never underestimate the human factors. Greed can destroy any system. And certainly greed was the #1 factor is this recent collapse.
I saw an interview (I believe it was with Fareed Zakaria) where Obama explained that none of these systems he is accused of implementing have any success stories to mirror. Why would he then suggest implementing a known failure? And of course this is then where the tin caps are put on. Because it would surely take a CT to explain a motive.
When I went seaching for the terms 'Obama' and 'Marxism' the other day I found so many simply idiotic comments and articles that it is no wonder the weak minded fall prey. Interesting that GW Bush who was not a neocon candidate was absolutely overwhelmed by that idealogy during the first 6 1/2 years of his presidency. Yet you never hear any complaints from the Right on this. I suppose because neoconservativism is a Zionist-American creation and that makes it somehow acceptable?
