Obama has unleashed the Axis of Evil. The nuclear race is out of the gate.

Thanks, O.
And thanks to you too liberals. Damn you sure no how to run a country into the ground. With the economic incest you've committed on our nation, getting us all blown to bits is next on the agenda I guess.
Lovely. Maybe we've been too hard on Obama. Maybe we should grade him on a curve and say as long as no one is getting nuked, he's doing a damn fine job.-

Where have you been the last 8 years?? After 8 years of the Bush regime the world is finally the way the war mongers who supported Bush wanted it to be.
Reply
The neocons kept saying the economy was great. Well you tell me, is it great? Because Obama hasn't been in office long enough to take credit for anything yet. If you voted for Bush in 2004 then you should be happy with the economy we have today because it's what you voted for. -

Despite Obama's Bombast, Iran's Nuclear Plant is Legal
It was very much a moment of high drama. Barack Obama, fresh from his history-making stint hosting the UN security council, took a break from his duties at the G20 economic summit in Pittsburgh to announce the existence of a secret, undeclared nuclear facility in Iran which was inconsistent with a peaceful nuclear programme, underscoring the president's conclusion that "Iran is breaking rules that all nations must follow".
... The facility in question, said to be located on a secret Iranian military installation outside of the holy city of Qom and capable of housing up to 3,000 centrifuges used to enrich uranium, had been monitored by the intelligence services of the US and other nations for some time. But it wasn't until Monday that the IAEA found out about its existence, based not on any intelligence "scoop" provided by the US, but rather Iran's own voluntary declaration. Iran's actions forced the hand of the US, leading to Obama's hurried press conference Friday morning.
...Beware politically motivated hype. While on the surface, Obama's dramatic intervention seemed sound, the devil is always in the details. The "rules" Iran is accused of breaking are not vague, but rather spelled out in clear terms. In accordance with Article 42 of Iran's Safeguards Agreement, and Code 3.1 of the General Part of the Subsidiary Arrangements..
...While this action is understandably vexing for the IAEA and those member states who are desirous of full transparency on the part of Iran, one cannot speak in absolute terms about Iran violating its obligations under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. So when Obama announced that "Iran is breaking rules that all nations must follow", he is technically and legally wrong.....

Actually the roots of Iran's nuclear program go back to Eisenhower, but especially to Ford, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld , Kissinger...... A little late to blame it on Obama (unless you are simply trying to sucker Americans into another NeoCon war in the mideast).

The fuel behind Iran's nuclear drive
Much of the argument over the intentions of Iran's nuclear program revolves around a single proposition that goes like this. Given that Iran has huge oil and gas reserves, it has no need for nuclear power for domestic energy needs and thus its nuclear program will be used for nuclear weapons. Like much so-called conventional wisdom, this is a highly misleading and debatable cliche....
... The first thing - of what we do know, and it's amazing how many Americans seem to skate over this - the first nuclear reactor given to Iran was given by the United States in 1967 - a five-megawatt trigger reactor, research reactor, under the Eisenhower Atoms for Peace Program. Still operated ... The other thing that Americans forget is that in 1974, the shah announced a policy of 23,000 megawatts of nuclear energy in Iraq. The US reaction? Henry Kissinger beat down the door to be sure that two US constructors, General Electric and Westinghouse, had a preferred position in selling those reactors. We did not say, "it's a stupid idea, why would you want to do that when you are flaring gas and you have immense oil reserves?" We said, "That is very interesting; it's an example of how the Iranian economy is moving and becoming modern."
In fact, president Gerald Ford signed a directive in 1976 offering Tehran the chance to buy and operate a US-built reprocessing facility for extracting plutonium from nuclear reactor fuel. The deal was for a complete "nuclear fuel cycle" - reactors powered by and regenerating fissile materials on a self-sustaining basis.
The construction of nuclear power plants in Iran has been contemplated for more than 30 years. The shah argued that hydrocarbon resources would be too valuable to burn by the beginning of 21st century and most of Iran's electricity generation must be supplied from nuclear power plants by then.
Today, Iran has a population of more than 65 million and most people are choking from air pollution. ....
A recent article in Foreign Policy journal noted:
Iran is the second-largest oil producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries [OPEC] and has the world's second-largest natural gas reserves. But its energy needs are rising faster than its ability to meet them. Driven by a young population and high oil revenues, Iran's power consumption is growing by around 7% annually, and its capacity must nearly triple over the next 15 years to meet projected demand. Where will the electricity come from? Not from the oil sector.....

"The missiles, fired at targets around the country Sunday, included the Fateh-110, a short-range ground-to-ground missile, and Tondar-69, a short-range naval missile, the station said. Iran plans to test the long-range Shahab missile on Monday.
The tests, which are expected to go on for the next 10 to 11 days, are codenamed "Payghambar-e Azam 4" or "The Great Messenger 4," Press TV said.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had said it would stage missile exercises to promote the armed forces' defense capabilities.
The tests come after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's disclosure Friday that Iran was building a second uranium enrichment facility."
This is to go on for 10-11 days??????
They must have quite a supply.
What will Obama's response be?????????-

Continue testing US missiles? Or continue allowing other countries to test THEIR missiles?
Isn't that the response of pretty much every president so far?
Last time I checked, pretty much every country that HAS missiles runs missile tests, including the US. -

As for the Obama bashing in some of the comments would it be fair to blame Bush for North Korea's development of nuclear weapons and also missile systems since they happened under his watch. Myself I wouldn't put the blame on either President and I would hope that President Obama takes the same course of action that your country did in regards to North Korea. As much as some people would like to see Iran blasted, i can't see that having a positive outcome for many countries over the long run, and until nations like China and Russia condemn Irans actions any attack even by Israel, will be counter productive. -

Once upon a time there were two brutal countries called
Iraq and Iran who were busy at fighting a long and bloody
war. Even when it that was over, the presence of one kept
the other in check. And then President W the Wise, decided
that is worth sacrificing thousands of American lives to
upset this balance of terror and turn Iraq into an
Iran-friendly country. And now Iran is on the top of
the heap with no local opposition and is giving the
finger to the rest of the world.
And the followers of W the Wise blame his successor O for not
being able to put Humpty-Dumpty together again. It sounds like
a good plot for a historical black comedy.-

Iran didn't say what you think Klarissa.("Does Iran really mean it when they say the will bomb (or whatever) Israel off the map?") It was translated by our media for you - to lead you down a path.

Just like the headline of this NYT article. Why was the word 'rebuke' used? I would be willing to bet that the missile tests had been planned for some time. As much as I abhor any and all of these military weapons - I think Iran is within it's rights.
No action is needed from our administration. -

How US tax breaks fund terrorist Israeli settlers
http://www.propeller.com/story/2009/09/17/how-us-t...
Israeli peace activists are planning to ratchet up their campaign against groups in the United States that raise money for settlers by highlighting how tax exemptions are helping to fund the expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank.
Gush Shalom, a small peace group that advocates Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories, is preparing to send details to the US tax authorities questioning the charitable status of several organisations.
Adam Keller, a spokesman, said these operations’ tax-exempt status meant that “settlement expansion is effectively being subsidised out of the pockets of the US taxpayer and government”.
The campaign is designed to increase pressure on Barack Obama, the US president, to demand action from Israel on his repeated calls -- so far largely ignored -- to end settlement building. Last week, Israel announced plans to build 455 new homes in West Bank settlements and 500 apartments in East Jerusalem....
...In a related move, Gush Shalom is encouraging Palestinians who have suffered from settler violence to file lawsuits in the United States that would redefine the settlers’ fund-raising work as support for “terrorist activity”.
The peace group has accelerated the pace of its campaign, according to a “confidential memo” it issued on July 29 that was leaked to the Israeli media, after the Israeli government heavily criticised human rights groups over the summer for receiving funds from foreign donors, particularly European governments.
In particular, the foreign ministry lambasted Breaking the Silence, a group of army veterans, for publishing testimonials from 26 Israeli combat soldiers suggesting the army committed war crimes during its assault on Gaza last winter.
Mr Keller said: “It’s the height of chutzpah for the foreign ministry to be hounding Breaking the Silence, which is doing something entirely legal and transparent, while keeping quiet about the settler organisations’ dependence on foreign income for their illegal activities.”
