Swiss arrest Polanski on US request in sex case - AP »
Posted By gamahuche 1 month, 3 weeks ago in NewsDirector Roman Polanski was arrested by Swiss police for possible extradition to the United States for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl, authorities said Sunday.
Polanski was flying in to receive an honorary award at the Zurich Film Festival when he was apprehended Saturday at the airport, the Swiss Justice Ministry said in a statement. It said U.S. authorities have sought the arrest of the 76-year-old around the world since 2005.
"There was a valid arrest request and we knew when he was coming," ministry spokesman Guido Balmer told The Associated Press. "That's why he was taken into custody."

Roman Polanski is a complicated fellow and with his history and background and experiences that's hardly surprising.

Does anything excuse a grown man taking advantage of a 13 year-old girl - not in my book.
Is there any worthwhile purpose in opening up this can-of-worms again over 30 years later?
Not in my book.
I had a small role in his "Oliver Twist", one of his less spectacular efforts, and experienced his eyes penetrating every part of my costume, make-up, demeanour and it was like being subjected to a laser. Watching him directing and following his process was one of the most powerful experiences I've had in the last few years. The oysters at the first showing in Prague, flown in from France, the most decadent members of their species that I'd ingested for a very long time.
It will be interesting to see how this unravels.-

Well, if Interpol is going to be extraditing people for crimes that old, there are some Americans wanted by Interpol that seem much more urgent.
Reply
For example, Henry Kissinger is wanted by several countries for questioning about his role in right-wing murder in Latin America. I'm sure that US authorities will be as scrupulous in turning Kissinger over as the Swiss. -

He confessed and the plea was accepted. He was awaiting final sentencing. He skipped because he was working on a picture and the courts back then didn't understand what a sexual predator was. He's an escaped, unrepentant, convict. It's time to toss his sorry butt in jail and lose the key.

I had no idea he was still "wanted". Thought it was settled long ago. Terrible thing to do of course. But after all these years of no real effort to catch up with him, why now? Seems very odd indeed. The guy does know how to make cinema, though.

That's not true. CA has tried to get him back for years. France refused and so did Poland. He had to sell his home in the UK because they were waiting to send him back here. He's a coward and should be horsewhipped for the crimes he committed. Drugging, raping and sodomy.... He should have to serve his time in the regular detention areas, he'll make someone a wonderful playmate.... Let's see how he likes it. Oh, he's French, he probably would.

There is no excuse for the sexual molestation of a child.
Reply
In my mind it is the murder of a spirit. It takes a precious thing that can not be given back away.
He should not be allowed back.
!@#$ Roman Polanski!
I have three daughters and five grandchildren.
I do not think he would be welcome in my home and at the minds of my children, why should I be willing to unleash a pedophile on the child of another.
He fled because he was guilty...let him stew in it.
Child rapers welcome in this country???
No...and I am not sorry, Rape of a child should carry a terrible sentence.
...people who want him here are really gonna have to come up with a good reason for it.
I just don't think he is sorry. He got by with a crime tantamount to murder and will now be feted?
No...that's a crime of itself. -

I have always assumed he was guilty;
Reply
he has never made any real defense.
And the testimony of the victim
has not disapeared because she declared
herself, decades later, over it.
Good for her.
But there is no free pass for the famous and
the interesting.
Child rape?
Prison. -

That is as it should be.

Crimes against children often are only revealed
decades later.
And yes, I know the victim has testified,
given interviews, and announced she is
over and done with it and it should all go away.
But it is not between Polanski and the woman
the child became.
It is between the law and the accused.
Justice is blind;
- it is not watching the clock.

Let's change this slightly. How about a Catholic Priest moleted you or perhaps your child. Got him or her drunk with their defenses down, that would be terrible. I'm sure you'd want to maximum penalty permitted by law. When a person enters into a plea agreement as he did that usually means there's enough evidence to convict on all counts. He's guilty of everything but he's trying to save time. He agreed, was evaluated and was ready for the sentence and skipped. He's a pedophile rapist who used drugs and alcohol who is clearly unrepentant of his crime and his escape from America justice. It's time they give him the maximum penalty. With that, I think $100 million in restitution to the victim is also in order. If they can try claims like than against an entire religious organization, why not a multimillionaire.
Oh and make sure he's in the general population. They love child rapists....

It's time to bring Polanski to justice. Now that we have full employment and the country's problems have been solved it's time to dredge up some of these old cases and prosecute them^properly. Besides, Polanski has lots of money and there are a few American lawyers who could use the extra money.

From another forum:

“What is missing from discussion is the fact that Polanski did not know he was messing with an underage girl. The girl pawned herself off as older. Playing Hollywood Mom, the girl's mother dropped her off at Jack Nicholson's house fully expecting what happened would happened. Polanski was the subject of a scam. Since when is falsely identifying one's self for the purpose of possible blackmail defensivable?”
And this one:
“He did do the 42 days and the other stipulations under a plea bargain agreement that if he pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse. Only afterwards did the crooked judge (which by the way was owned by under table payoffs from mafia figures) void the plea bargain agreement, but withheld the verdict of guilty. Roman Polanski did what was required of him under the initial plea bargain agreement and shouldn't have to go through anymore court/jail time.”
So, my question is - was it kind of “sting operation” on part of her and her mom?
Was a judge crooked? I would vote yes for both questions. Would you?

First, so it's now fine to rape children? You may want to let the victims of the Catholic church know that. Many are still trying to seek justice. And before your speak, think about it. He fed alcohol laced with quaaludes to a 13 year old and then raped her. There were 6 felonies bargained away in the plea agreement. The judge was prepared to add extra time for something that came out during his evaluation. Was it that he wasn't remorseful for his conduct? Was it that he didn't feel it was rape because he seduced him? Especially when she passed out and came too several times asking him to stop. Who knows, but the judge was prepared to change something. That's when he ran.

As to money, he doesn't need another lawyer. He's been convicted it's only sentencing time and adding time for escape. Again, I'll say, anything he earned after his conviction, profit wise should be turned over to the victim. That's about $100 million. But again he's a lefty liberal so you'll forgive him.... I just can't understand liberals.

This case is over 30 years old and there have been plenty of chances to take Polanski into custody so why now? Right in the midst of an economic crisis that hasn't spared State, City and County governments, and now Polanski is going to fight extradition so that means $$$$$$ to get him here and $$$$$$$ to prosecute him when he gets here and in my opinion after all this time it is going to be at best a 50-50 chance of getting a jury to convict him since there is a plea bargain of sorts already on record. Don't get me wrong the man should be punished for his crime but that should have been done years ago.

You're wrong. France and Poland refused to extradite him. The CA justice department has tried for years. They had papers in the UK waiting for him to reenter but instead he sold his him in absentia. He's avoided this for years. We're still talking about the drugging and raping of a child. It's time for him to serve his time. I think life without parole is a good option.

I can't wait to hear from the lefties in Hollywood defending this scum sucking maggot.
