Are We Witnessing the Collapse of Liberalism? »
Posted By RTHTGakaRoland 2 months, 1 week ago in Political OpinionLess than a year into his presidency, Barack Obama's world grows bleaker. Liberalism's world is bleaker. At home and abroad, liberalism, as advanced by the President, is failing. Are we witnessing the beginnings of another historic event, loosely comparable to the fall of communism twenty years ago? Now the fall of liberalism?
Remember, at the beginning of the 1980s, no one would have predicted that by the decade's close the Berlin Wall would fall, communism would be discredited and the Soviet Union would be less than a couple of years away from dissolution.
Though no conservative worth his salt is surprised by liberalism's shortcomings, the rapidity of its failure is surprising. More importantly, it's alarming, for though the effects of liberalism's failure are damaging to us at home, they may prove terrible to us abroad.
Step back to consider. What's working for Mr. Obama and the Democrats?
Despite the Democrats' interventions, an anemic economy promises nothing more than a tepid recovery, if that. Democrats are indebting the nation to the tune of trillions of dollars. The greenback has been debased. Serious inflation is coming, and that inflation will trigger another economic downturn, one that might be sharper and deeper than we're now experiencing.
What commonsense American believes that mountains of debt and looming inflation are good for a struggling economy? More to the point, if a party has a sober worldview and a solid grasp of recent history, how can it possibly legislate policies and spending that must have disastrous consequences?
Well, it can't. But Democrats can. They long ago raised liberalism to dogma. Reality is off-limits to the faithful.
In less than nine months time, the time of Mr. Obama's tenure, a bad economy remains bad, with the prospect of getting worse. Overseas, the nation's enemies, who only a short time ago feared us, now scheme to overtly or surreptitiously challenge us. Our allies in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, some of whom resent our power, must confront an ugly question: What happens in a world absent sufficient projections of American power?
But make no mistake. This is not only the faults and failings of a man, Barack Obama, but of the worldview and philosophy he embodies. Liberalism in action is again proving to be a dismal and dangerous failure. This time, though, its margin for error is greatly diminished. Hence, the nation faces greater risks.

You sense panting sweating delirium,
- of the type found in the bad kind of
alleys where the inhabitants have been
injesting, injecting, inhaling and
yet still failing to run away from the ugly alley.
Don't give them money
no matter what they say;
- they just spend it on more AmericanThinker poison.

You're exactly bass-akwards on this one.
If Liberalism is collapsing (and I don't think it is), it will at some point find the need to re-invent itself into the Liberalism of the late 60's and early 70's, in order to re-establish itself with the US electorate, and take back some more power.
Liberalism will NOT go away. That is guaranteed by the 40-plus years of indoctrination of US students and society through Liberal teachers, Liberal professors and the liberal-complicit media. Too many people have faulty Liberal ideas swirling around in their heads for Liberalism to simply go away.
People like you, perhaps.
But then, again, you are not native to the US, are you. My clue: your British spelling of the final word in your post. Or perhaps you are a US citizen who didn't pay enough attention in school, and is simply a poor speller.......
Anyway, true capitalism is NOT tied to dictatorship in ANY form. Ba$tardized capitalism- yes. Not true capitalism. Dictatorship is connected to socialism, communism and fascism-- three philosophies closer to Liberalism than to capitalism.

What I remember about the 1980's is how homelessness made a major come back and has not gone away since. What's more, the economy would have recovered under Carter and we'd be better off today if Carter had won a second term. The economy improved not because of Reagan but because of the age of information technology that created new markets and new industries and because of the collapse of energy prices owing to reduced consumption and new oil discoveries. Everything else about Ronald Reagan is just more conservative mythology. He had the savings and loan scandal under his administration, he stopped progress on fuel economy, and he put America on the indebtedness track that has been the norm ever since. What's really happening is the conservative mythology has exploded. If tax cuts were really the thing, then we would not be in this mess now.How do you account for the collapse of the economy after Bush's major tax cuts which have not been overturned? And no, this recession was not caused by politically correct loans to minorities. That is a big slice of stupid given that these loans were not the ones predominantly in default nor a big percentage overall of those which failed. Minorities don't constitute that big a part of our economy. The economy collapased under Bush jrs. economic policies and management because it wasn't based upon a stable and strong middle class with good jobs and security. If the bubble was a bubble, you can't claim the economy was good under Bush, now can you. I mean if your argument is that politically correct loans was what made the economy collapse, then obviously these were the only thing sustaining it. The economy did not recover under Reagan for the first three years of his term. Talk about a tepid recovery. But I guess three years is not more than one for this Einstein. This guys article is mostly wishful thinking and unsubstantiated projection. There is growing optimism in the economy already and the stimulus is going to continue to help. When we get health care reform, things will improve more. Keep these coming.

Interesting. But... isn't that also what the libs say about conservatism? It's definitely changing its face as time goes on, but I don't see it dying out. As long as there is freedom, I think both sides will still be here for a long time. I just hope that crazy "One World Government" theory doesn't become reality. That would be the biggest threat to having two or more sides of open debate.

Our obscene trade deficit brought about by deregulation,outsourcing and offshoring is what will bring us down. Right now we are dependent on our suppliers to buy our treasury notes and long term obligations.

Deep beneath a bunker under the Heritage Foundation
Reply
RTHKgaka huddles over a map of america.
The lightbulb shadows his face in harsh lines;
each time a mortar-shell hits the battle
field above, the light swings slightly,
giving the conservative bunker a nightmare
feel of falling through shadows.
"We are winning!" croaks Gaka, pointing a shaking
finger at a web of red circles across the map.
"The enemy is in full retreat; already their legions
are deserting their failed leader. Soon, soon we shall
return to Washington in triumph!"
The bunker rocks in a sudden blast; Pc25, Klarrisa,
and Newsguy hold onto the table till the floor settles.
Gaka lurches to a blackboard.
"I expect two million devotees to the cause on the
mall tomorrow ," he says, sketching dozens of tiny
figures holding signs.
PC25 looks nervious; "uhm, well, about that - "
A messenger staggers in. He is bleeding from
the ears, having come through the barrage of fake news
announcements.
"It's Palin, Sir! She is coming to our rescue!"
"We are saved!" shouts everyone.
- but there seems to be fewer in the room.
The back door is swinging open;
and the awakening wind of 2009 is blowing through.
It is an autumn wind, cold, clear and unkind;
and it seems to have no more damned use
for fake words, than for the dead leaves.
