Posted By gpsea1 2 months ago in NewsIn light of the extreme weather event that devastated Luzon in the past 24 hours, Greenpeace is reiterating its call for industrialized nations to put money on the table for adaptation, mitigation and forest protection in order to help countries like the Philippines that are most vulnerable and least prepared to deal with impacts of catastrophic climate change.

Typhoons like, Ketsana, NEVER happened in the Philippines before. The last typhoon, which had the same intensity as Ketsana, happened more than a decade ago.

The typhoon that happened a decade ago brought the same amount of rainfall but in a longer period of time. Typhoon Ketsana brought a month's worth of rainfall to Metro Manila and other nearby areas in a span of 6-9 hours. Was that normal?
Thus, people are urging industrialized countries to lessen their Carbon Emission. Developing countries, such as the Philippines, do not have the capacity to do that. In an area of great poverty, the Philippines do not have the capability to risk their economy for the environment. Industrialized countries, who emit a much larger amount of carbon emissions, should help address the problem of Global Warming.
Industrialized Counties may be ready for the effects of Global Warming but not the Developing Countries.
