Bible verses banned from Ga. school football field »

FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. (AP) -- The Warriors of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High took the field on Friday night without any Bible verses written on the cheerleaders' banner.

Instead, the football team ran through a banner that read "This is Big Red Country" before each bent on a knee to pray on the field of Tommy Cash Stadium.

The spirited display comes after the school district banned the banners last week over concerns they were unconstitutional and could provoke a lawsuit, angering many in the deeply religious north Georgia town of Fort Oglethorpe.

These people pretend to believe that just because they can't force their religion down the throats of others, they can't freely practice their own religion. That isn't the case though and really they know it. They just want to bully others into believing as they do or deal with the hostile environment that comes from defying their proselytizing.

Bottom line....if they want to pray, no one is stopping them. What they CAN'T do is force everyone else to contend with their version of Christianity. Having Bible verses on high school cheerleading flags is definitely crossing the line. Unless, of course, they would be willing to have verses from the Talmud, the Qur'an, and whatever other religious texts may or may not represent folks who live in their little community. They would NEVER stand for anything but the Christian bible though, so the only alternative is to let them read their bible on their own time and leave public school functions to be separate from any such religious pressures. Why is this so hard for them to understand?

What I really take offense to is the fact that, the arguements are about whether or not someone has the right to diplay their beliefs in a public setting.

Now I'm a Christian, and the signs don't offend me, they didn't offend me before I became a Christian.

What offends me is that we have parades on public streets and pay for police, fire and other public entities to support gay pride marches, illegal alien demonstrations, marches to deny peoples rights to choose their own beliefs... I think ya get the picture.

But we can't have Gospel verses displayed at a high school football game for the players to run through ????? There is no liberty in that, there is only supression from those who wish to silence we who do believe and wish to share it.

Hypocrisy thy name is self righteousness, tolerance of evil is wrong. So is denying the right to express the beliefs of a team of students who wish to display their beliefs in the Glory of God.
