Bible verses banned from Ga. school football field »
Posted By kellekrapache128 1 month, 3 weeks ago in NewsFORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. (AP) -- The Warriors of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High took the field on Friday night without any Bible verses written on the cheerleaders' banner.
Instead, the football team ran through a banner that read "This is Big Red Country" before each bent on a knee to pray on the field of Tommy Cash Stadium.
The spirited display comes after the school district banned the banners last week over concerns they were unconstitutional and could provoke a lawsuit, angering many in the deeply religious north Georgia town of Fort Oglethorpe.

These people pretend to believe that just because they can't force their religion down the throats of others, they can't freely practice their own religion. That isn't the case though and really they know it. They just want to bully others into believing as they do or deal with the hostile environment that comes from defying their proselytizing.

Bottom line....if they want to pray, no one is stopping them. What they CAN'T do is force everyone else to contend with their version of Christianity. Having Bible verses on high school cheerleading flags is definitely crossing the line. Unless, of course, they would be willing to have verses from the Talmud, the Qur'an, and whatever other religious texts may or may not represent folks who live in their little community. They would NEVER stand for anything but the Christian bible though, so the only alternative is to let them read their bible on their own time and leave public school functions to be separate from any such religious pressures. Why is this so hard for them to understand?-

I agree completely epiphannyy..I believe in a God..Maybe not the same as yours or someone else and i don't think i have the right to force that on anyone else in a public setting..I encourage and support people to practice their faith though.

What I really take offense to is the fact that, the arguements are about whether or not someone has the right to diplay their beliefs in a public setting.

Now I'm a Christian, and the signs don't offend me, they didn't offend me before I became a Christian.
What offends me is that we have parades on public streets and pay for police, fire and other public entities to support gay pride marches, illegal alien demonstrations, marches to deny peoples rights to choose their own beliefs... I think ya get the picture.
But we can't have Gospel verses displayed at a high school football game for the players to run through ????? There is no liberty in that, there is only supression from those who wish to silence we who do believe and wish to share it.
Hypocrisy thy name is self righteousness, tolerance of evil is wrong. So is denying the right to express the beliefs of a team of students who wish to display their beliefs in the Glory of God.-

Nope.
Because that's a state entity (or government entity) establishing one religion over another.
Unless you're going to force those same people to allow a verse from the Qu'ran, or Buddha or Darwin from a Muslim/Buddhist/Atheist if there's a single person who wants it -- you're establishing one religion over another contrary to the constitution of the United States.
This isn't about public display of belief. It's about the law of the nation and following the constitution which has a strict anti-establishment clause which every single Christian should be thankful for. Otherwise you might find the government imposing *their* version of Christianity upon everyone and you might not like it if they choose Catholicism. Or Quakerism. Or a particularly hateful brand of Protestantism. Or a particularly open brand of Protestantism that recognizes homosexuality as not being a sin.
It is wrong to force your religion on someone else speaking morally and ethically. Legally it is wrong for any state/federal entity to force a particular religion onto anyone else. -

You (and they) may want to re-read Matthew 6:5 :
"" "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full." (NIV)
Or Matthew 6:1
"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven." -

Matthew 6:5-8
Nelson's NKJV Study Bible
5 "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8 "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him."
How does this relate to running through a banner at a football game ????
It seems more like he is warning those who go to worship in public places, to be seen offering up prayers for their glory not God's Glory !!! As far as the repetitious prayers, what are the prayers of repentance in the Catholic church except repetitious prayers. Say ten hail Mary's and you are forgiven ?????
Matthew 7:13-23
"Two Ways of Life
13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
False and True Teaching
Luke 6:43-45
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
True Way into the Kingdom
Luke 6:46
21 "Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? 23 And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!"
