Conservatives Revel In Chicago's Olympic Defeat »

When the International Olympic Committee voted against Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics this morning -- after the President and First Lady flew to Copenhagen to push for it in person -- the Weekly Standard newsroom burst into applause.

"Cheers erupt at Weekly Standard world headquarters," wrote editor John McCormack in a post titled "Chicago Loses! Chicago Loses!"

"Please, please let me break this news to you. It's so sweet," said Glenn Beck on his radio show.

"ChicagP\/\/n3D!" tweeted Newsmax, of recent fame for running, then pulling, a column about an impending military coup against Obama.

Just someone who is tired of all the "libs-R-..." pejorative user names. A little turnabout is fair play.

As Krugman described this in his blog, "Party of Beavis and Butt-head":
"Middle-aged adolescents — dumb middle-aged adolescents — rule one of our nation’s two great political parties."

Unbelievable! It matters not what Obama tries to do, the righties will condemn him. Just total stupidity. So Chicago didn't get the Olympics! So what? I'm sure Obama isn't 'crushed' by the IOC's decision. Every other Head of State of the countries in the running always attend...why shouldn't ours? But Nooooo, the GOP and their loonie cheerleaders in Beck, et al, are just reveling in another perceived Obama 'failure'.

You righties need to find something to believe in other than NO NO No No No. Your attitude and your party does NOTHING for our country, you only drag it down. You are the most unpatriotic bunch of poor losers possible.

Rule # one seems to be better the country fail then the other side do something right. What amazes me is why people like Rush and his left wing counterparts get any coverage at all, even people with very low IQ's should see right through them but no Americans eat at the troff and beg for more. Freedom of speech is fine but only cover what is worthy of news, let Rush and his counterparts go unheard like the morons they are.

This story is telling. The Republican plan to get back in power is to oppose anything Obama, whether it is good for the country or not. The Republican Party is not worthy of American respect. And it has been going down this road for sometime.

That is why I left the party and became an Independent a few months into Bush's first term.

The realization that the Republican Party was no longer the Party of our fathers caused me to begin to call for the demise of the GOP.

And that is why I began to propose that all Americans shun the GOP out of existence. It is a perfectly legal way to punish the party for their anti-American trend. If we Americans would vow to and then do what we vow we can send that party to the dust bin of history. The vow I suggest is " I will never vote for a Republican Candidate again".

The upshot of doing this is that potential candidates for leadership will realize that running for office in the Republican Party is a sure fire way to lose.

The second effect is that surviving Parties should recognize the penalty for dissing the American people. They should realize that to stay a viable party they must serve the people instead of insisting that the people serve them. And if they don't they will join the GOP as the "used to be Party".

Once this is accomplished we can assure ourselves of two other things: Those we elect will be much more likely to be moral and ethical and if they turn out not to be, they surely must be able to see their fate.

I will never ever again vote for a Republican Candidate.

The conservatve response is absolutely disgusting! Completely anti-American. Having the Olympics on US soil would be not only be a partial restoration of Ameerican prestige, it would also be a tremendous boon to our construction industry, hotels, restaurants, sports clothing and epuipment industry, etc. Think of all the jobs it would have created for so many unemployed Americans.

The Republicans ought to be soundly ashamed. Again, they are thinkng only of the political aspects of Obama's participation in the presentation. They forgot the common folk, those who are begging for jobs. At least Obama was doing his job as president to try to stimulate more jobs for our citizens.

How completely narrow-minded, self-centered, short-sighted, arrogant, and elitist the Republicans have proven themselves to be.

He would have been criticized no matter what he did in this situation. If he hadn't gone, he would have been accused of turning his back on his hometown and country when they needed him most and blamed for the loss. If Chicago had won without his "support" then he would have been blamed for ignoring the will of the people and the win without him would have been touted as proof that he's insignificant because they didn't "need" him to win.

No matter what, Obama's opposition would have criticized him for it. It was lose/lose...like just about every situation these days. He's criticized for wins and failures alike. Just look at Cash4Clunkers as proof that even an over-the-top success is spun into a failure by the right.

That being said...I don't think Chicago should have won the bid either, and I am an Obama supporter. We have hosted 2/7 previous games. It's time for other countries to have their turn at it. But I find it amusing that the right predictably had their criticisms ready for this one. It's all they really seem capable of doing these days.

I think that this thread reveals how far into the sewer the Republican Party has crawled. Here I am against Obama and some of the nuts on here almost force me to take up for him.

Repubs, you can do better than you've been doing. In your hate for Obama you would let the United States go to Hell if it would harm Obama. I call that un-American.

This type of behavior from the GOP over the last few years is why I left the Republican Party and will never vote for a Republican Candidate again.

I ask all true Americans to join me in this pledge.

              Slate

              Did you say Pee-Wee Herman?

Slate, what made you think of him? Slate you were out of line with that comment. Surely you can do better.

I call him Limpy for my disgust with him. Here is a Republican far right conservative who openly hopes for the failure of Obama even if it means harm to America, and he still draws the GOP faithful in. I listen to Limbaugh nearly every day. I have heard him make that statement.
I remember when Limpy was caught with 10,000 pain killers in hand. He beat the rap for drug dealing. I wonder if he had help from the Religious Right.

Slate, is your defense of your heroes a defense that sinks to asking if my hero is a sex pervert? Slate, I don't know what to say about you. I though you were more than that. I guess I was wrong.
