The poll found that over half the country would prefer Congress pass health legislation that includes "a strong public health insurance option," only supported by Democrats, over a bill with "no public option that has the support of Democrats and a handful of Republicans." This finding holds true for most Democrats and many independents. Eighty percent of Democrats and 47 percent of independents place greater importance on the achievement of a public option than on bipartisanship.
Other polls have found that a majority would prefer a bipartisan bill -- but they asked the question in isolation, without exploring the potential policy ramifications. -

Strange that what I googled is the following.
Reply
NBC/WSJ 36% favor 42 opposed
Rassmusen 47% favor 49% opposed
Pew 38% favor 44% opposed
NPR 42% favor 47% opposed
Fox 36% favor 47% opposed
So tell me again the great outpouring in favor of this legislation. The Blue Dog Democrats are watching the climbing opposition carefully. Why do you think that the bills are in trouble. The public looks at the $200 billion deficit a year to pay for it and has big heartburn.

It is a very sad state of affairs when the majority wants a public option and our politicians bend to the will of special interests. We should see to it that all politicians who do not support this option where their constituents do are voted out of office on the next election cycle.

If, when Congress is through gutting health care "reform", I still can't afford it. I will NOT participate. Given the choice of a house payment or an insurance payment the house wins. If I'm fined for not paying scum sucking murders to provide, or not provide, my health care I won't pay it. I've worked hard and paid my taxes all my life. I've reached a point where I may not even buy private insurance even if I could afford it because I feel the insurance industry is a criminal operation. What's that do for universal coverage?

Hate to break it to you, Stevie, but you MUST have health insurance under Obamacare. You will have no freedom to opt out. In the Senate version of the bill, refusal to comply will earn you either a $25K fine or up to a year in jail. In the House version of the bill, the government has the right to reach into your bank account and TAKE the money.

The problem is we have Republicans who masquerade as Democrats. Its time to expose these turn coats. Those who sit on the committee and are whors for the industry will have blood and death on their hands and all for the sake of the industry and greed.

Where do you think the Blue Dog Democrats are serving from? Normally Republican areas. They promised to be fiscally conservative and they have voted for $2 trillion deficit so far. They have to face their constituents with this track record. If they do not start holding the line they will be one term politicians. When the Democrats took the houses in 2006 they PROMISED TO KILL THE DEFICIT. They raised it under Bush. Now with Obama it has gone out of sight.

Typical tax and spend Democrats. First the spending and then the taxing. The health care bill has taxes in it for anybody that does not get insurance and cap and trade is coming with $1,700 plus per family per the Treasury Dept. What other taxes will the great Obamasiah bring forth to try to pay for this horrendous deficit?

The Republicans lost the presidency and seats in Congress for a reason. They are no longer relevant or in touch with the needs of their constituents.

Now, we just need the Democrats to follow through on their campaign promises and to stop waffling in the face of lobbyist pressures, their own agendas (greed), and in hopes of a bipartisan bill.
Those of us that want to keep our politicians accountable need to keep emailing, writing, calling, and petitioning them to represent OUR needs.-

I will give Obama two years..That is what i gave the idiot before him and that is what i will give whoever comes after..It takes at least that long to do almost anything..Although i think Obama is raising the bar on that..

The Daily Kos must be polling their staff members to come up with these skewed numbers. Here's a scientific poll from Rasmussen, the #1 ranked-for-accuracy site:

Support for Health Care Plan Hits New Low
Monday, September 28, 2009
Just 41% of voters nationwide now favor the health care reform proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s down two points from a week ago and the lowest level of support yet measured.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% are opposed to the plan.
Senior citizens are less supportive of the plan than younger voters. In the latest survey, just 33% of seniors favor the plan while 59% are opposed. The intensity gap among seniors is significant. Only 16% of the over-65 crowd Strongly Favors the legislation while 46% are Strongly Opposed.

ya dont suppose thats because seniors have been lied to about death panels and they already enjoy a robust public option called medicare?
the only poll that matters was taken on election day...President Obama ran on a robust public option and won -

bossman, feel free to click on bluetexasvalley's link to the actual poll so you can read the questions (2nd comment on this thread).

Oddly enough, the Rasmussen Reports article you cite doesn't give readers a chance to actually look at the questions asked. And there isn't one plan, there are several before Congress, so that poll is inherently flawed. Those who oppose "the plan" are clearly uninformed if they think there's only one...just like you. -

It's amusing how the polls that show suport for health care reform and Public Option hitting new lows are always honest, accurate and "scientific" but the polls that show there is really a healthy majority support for health care reform with Public Option are always skewed.

I never heard such begging.I'm sure when, and if you get what your asking for, your not going to be happy.I believe that a public option will be good for construction,as they will by necessity have to remove the partition between the private, and semi-private rooms to form ten, twenty, and thirty bed wards, believe me you won't like it,I didn't.

I really don't favor any party controlling our lives because they are all the same in that they have their agendas.

I would prefer the party of Teddy Roosevelt over any party we have today.
As far as the public option !!! What other option is there for all who cannot afford health care any other way.
I'm truly saddened by what America has become, the land of the all night infomercial to sell something no one really wants.
That is what the insurance companies are doing, but they are using our elected representatives as their shills.
They are trying to sell us something we don't want, but that they want us to have to get from them.
This stinks of greed and corporatism !!!!-

It is greed and corporatism CBG...They are pouring over a million a day into their lobbyist pockets to stop any health care reform...Anytime you can raise your profits over 400% you don't want change...The saddest thing of all is that people aren't opposing their greed, they just keep digging deeper into their pockets to pay these thieves..

Really? How many would approve of getting rid of Medicare?
"...as there are less than 5% without it who could easily be rolled into an existing government plan"
Got any kind of link to support that lie?
And you're contradicting yourself. If there are so many who could easily be rolled into an existing government plan, then all those people must approve of a form of government health care, right?

47 million - 15 million that make 50 k or more and refuse to but health insurance - 12 million illegal alien felons - 8 million that already qualify for government healthcare = 12 million...or less than 5% of the population who can easily be added to one of the current government plans....wake up America

It's a pandemic. Over a hundred thousand have already contracted it in the U.S. Though it's much less deadly than expected, it's still not very pleasant (I have it as I type this), if you contract it, you can infect many others. That's why it's important to get your shots--if you don't, you're a public health hazard.

Maybe we should all start at the same level...Have all legislators give up their public option health coverage, and let them make their comments about fixing health care in America. And they should watch Sicko, by M. Moore to see what is really going on in America, and how we stack up against the rest of the world...

We know where you can get help, but only if you accept a position on a death panel. You have to pay for government insurance and if you don't, off to the slammer with you.
