Not so happy about wall st and insurance companies drowning out your voice? Divest now. If you own any health insurance stock, or are part of any group that invests in these stocks, divest them, insist Wall Street, having seen the plunge of Lehman Brothers and AIG has no intention of allowing health insurance companies, the most profitable of them all, to go down the drain. No way. Now maybe this explains why, when 65% of the voting public wants real reform, single payer, nothing happens.
Reply
No maybe about it! This explains why none of the other high power corporations, automakers, Coca Cola, the usually liberal Hollywood studios, just to name a few, and all our Senators, Republican and Democrat and even President Obama, are not demanding single payer. Their executives and their unions, their cities and states, their school boards, also own a piece of the insurance pie
Do you have a pension fund, mutual fund, an IRA, a 401k? Congratulations, then you too own a piece of a health insurance company.
Demand any group you are involved in divest now. Their weapon of choice is money, well over a million and a half dollars a day overflowing the coffers of the politicians from the insurance industry alone insure YOUR voice will not be heard.
Cut it off at the source.
Divest.-

Was this your position before or after the health insurance companies sat down with Obama and gave him everything he asked for?
Reply
And where is your call to all Democrats working for these demon health care insurance companies to walk off their jobs immediately? Or are you just another coward who lacks the courage of his convictions?

Doctors provide a service that takes an enormous investment of time and money to complete. What does an insurance CEO do?
Reply
From 2000 to 2007, the 10 largest publicly-traded health insurance companies increased their profits 428 percent, from $2.4 billion to $12.9 billion annually. In addition to profit, the seven largest for-profit insurers boosted their earnings per share by repurchasing $52.4 billion of their own stock from 2003 to 2008—money that could have been spent on improving the health care system or cutting premium rates. These profit margins have come directly out of customers’ pockets in the form of escalating premiums and worsening service.

We have to wring the profitability out of these greedy health care and health insurance companies. That is the only way to reduce costs. Insurance can only be provided by a single payer government option which will reduce costs and provide equal and fair access to all people living in the US.

Hasn't congress admitted they are powerless to reign in outlandish behavior against public interest of these companies.

(competition the only way to control costs)
If you break the law, you go to jail.
Not the insurance industry though, if they lose money,as they did insuring the "redneck riviera" which was flooded out in last years storms, congress, including every republican and blue dog democrat voted to SOCIALIZE insurance losses and had taxpayers pick up the tab.
No other industry has such a comprehensive record of violating consumer protections. Take the recent scandal involving Ingenix, the UnitedHealth Group Inc. subsidiary that for years ran a database that has been discredited. New York state investigators found that health insurers, including Aetna Inc., Cigna Corp. and WellPoint Inc., contributed to and made use of a system that consistently low-balled reimbursement calculations for out-of-network care by doctors and hospitals. Families paid the difference. A California investigation revealed a common practice in which multiple insurers retroactively canceled policies of patients who developed costly illnesses. Listen to the liberals rant. Where in the constitution does it say anything about health care being a right. The foolishness of the radical liberals is mind numbing. They make up things out of thin air. Even with all of the failed programs they have created they never slow down to try to even fix anything. They just keep piling more and more on top.At one point under Clinton there were over 50 basketball programs under 5 different departments. Then they do not understand why conservative say they are against what the liberals want to do. Tax ans spend. A $2 trillion start in deficit spending this year.

Oh and one more thing. How can you deny affordable and fair healthcare, so that all Americans can live healthy and productive lives, as being a civil right, while you defend everyone rights to carry firearms. Seem hypocritical. You can protect your self with a gun (some of you seem to need automatic assault riffles), but you cant save yourself by going to a hospital.

* If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
Reply
* A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
You should post this most often.
The gist is that a conservative empowers himself, while a liberal imposes himself. -

I think if you flip the liberal and conservative around you may have it. Seems in pretty much each case you specify its the conservative who demands everyone do the same. With abortion it seems if they are against it for themselves it has to be unavailable for all, since they dont want same-sex marriages well them no one can have them. Sorry the ones who seem intent on shoving their beliefs down everyones throat is the right wing.

jonnyrtin,I can't believe you would air the liberal lefts dirty laundry in a public forum. You have destroyed the notion these folks believe in personal responsibility, and individual liberty. They don't understand the concept of priorities, why pay good money for health care, when there are so many other nice thing you can do with it.Now that they have a far left president, health care is just the first step.God only knows whats next

Wasn't the reason for the Bill of Rights to establish the government’s responsibilities to the people and set limits on what the Government can and cannot do? I am pretty sure that free speech and even the gun thingie are in there but unless the copy I am looking at is an old one there isn't a thing there about health care. Before you get your tail in a know and start hurling accusations, I am all for some measure of health care for all US citizens, but there is a right way and a wrong way for doing it and what they have and have been trying to push through is not the right way - it will create more problems and it won't fix what is currently wrong.
Reply
We currently do not have the medical infrastructure and staff to jump into national health care full bore and so the immediate result WILL be a lowering and rationing of health care for those currently receiving it.
Regardless of “assurances” from Obama, or anyone else, the powers in Washington and in the Healthcare industry will find a way to include illegal aliens.
Also regardless of any assurances to the contrary this will turn into a competition free industry that will be overflowing with corruption and leave everyone at their mercy with no possibility of ever being able to fix it. And no, recognizing that does not mean I am unaware of the corruption and other faults in the current system.
Any change of the magnitude we the people wish to see cannot be done in one fell swoop, we simply do not have the cash to do it that way and doing it that way would insure any problems within the system would be well rooted and impossible to even efficiently track down much less remove.

I already went to the MAHD web site, clicked on "Meet The Doctors," and systematically ripped their unimaginative screeds to pieces. At the very least I would expect that a gaggle of physicians weighing in on this or any health-related topic would bring something to the table.

A right is something bestowed on a person at birth by their creator and a right is something that can be exercised without any aid or help from others. Health care is right only in as far as an individual can care for himself if that individual depends on another person for his health care then it's a privilege not a right. Liberal progressives have big problems understanding the difference.

Wolfie...I see you define a right as something " bestowed on you by the so called creator".... who is this creator and when did he bestow the "right to bear arms' that you are so fond of. Based on what you said .... your constitution means nothing to you

I really don't know what the argument is about anymore. I see it as a being about quality of life.

The real issue here is whether you are pro-life or against it. Why should the private sector be in charge of whether you live or die? And, why is capitalism tied so heavily to our well-being?
It boggles the mind that so many are fighting so feverishly to prop up a system that is unsustainable and makes a profit from whether you receive proper and adequate medical attention.
Have we lost our humanity?
