Afghanistan - THE NOISE BEFORE DEFEAT »

Posted By greenmac 2 months ago in News

"There is now no hiding the fact that the entire international mission in Afghanistan seriously lost its way years ago.

This is clear from the current policy struggles among NATO allies, including the Obama administration's groping attempt to come up with what's diplomatically being called a "fresh approach."

The problem here is not just a military matter, and the addition of still more U.S. troops, which the Pentagon is asking for, might improve only part of the overall mission.

What's urgently needed is an answer to the two key questions that have haunted the Western mission almost since its inception eight years ago: Who's in charge and where are we going?

This story is truly idiotic propaganda.

    A good post Greenmac.

However, the story misses the point either on purpose or as Wolfie says propaganda. While it is true that the Afghanistan mission has lost its way - or in my thoughts - lost its purpose, the reasons for losing its purpose are not addressed.

First, the invasion of Afghanistan was stated as done to get Osama Bin Laden. Right off it missed the target because when OBN was offered up to the U S, the offer was ignored. And once he was out of Afghanistan there was no longer a purpose - at least one that could be sold to the American people.

Then it was to get the Taliban out, but they've been out forever so no the selling point is to get Al-Qaeda out.

In the meantime the kill ratio of civilians to "bad guys" has bee close to 50-1. Hard to win hearts and minds that way.

No, the war has continued for two reasons:

To fuel the profit stream of the War Industry and

To build bases in the Middle East to help get control of all the Oil in that region. The Multi National Oil companies want that Oil. Put the two factions together and you have a powerful twosome with lots of money to buy Senators and Representatives, plus one other. They sell out fairly easy.

Years ago, this war was going pretty well.

It's Obama that has caused the huge problem!

History is my defense. This war just started down a bad path. Obama is ignoring his General and focusing on healthcare and olympics. Time for Obama to step up and claim some responsibility for his poor policies, or lack there of.

Like I said, blame Bush. You are going to anyway:)

Bush started an immoral unnecessary war to profit the War Industry and the Mega Corporations who wanted two things:

Oil and to provide services to support the war effort - for a profit of course.

Those Corporations such as Blackwater thrive on War. That is their business and the difference between a regular Army and a Mercenary Army is that the first wants the war to end so they can get back home. The Corporate War Armies want the war to last forever, that would mean they would have profits forever.

There are more Mercenaries in Iraq and Afghanistan than there are regular Army soldiers.
