Mass Arrests at Obama-Occupied White House »
Posted By jovial 1 month, 2 weeks ago in NewsOn Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, just after noon, about 60 activists were arrested at the White House for failing to obey a police order. The nonviolent ; Civil Resistance; action was the largest such antiwar demonstration at this particular site, since President Barack Obama took office. Hundreds more participated in the event, but chose not to get arrested. Some of those arrested wore orange jump suits and black hoods. A few had chained themselves to the White House fence. Peace Mom, Cindy Sheehan was one of those arrested. According to the press release of the sponsoring groups the action was carried out in order to focus attention on ending the U.S. war in Afghanistan and the U.S. occupation of Iraq; stopping the U.S. drone bombings in Pakistan; and to demand the closing, as a moral and legal issue, of the Gitmo and Bagram prisons. The activists also want the culpable members of the Bush-Cheney Gang brought to the Bar of Justice for their role in sanctioning and carrying out the illegal policy of torture. See: http://www.iraqpledge.org/ and http://www.democrats.com/node/21009 and http://vcnv.org/ncnr and for a legal perspective on the practice of nonviolent resistance, check out Professor Frances A. Boyle’ s excellent book, “ Protesting Power: War, Resistance, and Law” at: http://baltimore.indymedia.org/newswi…
For the exact charges placed against each activist arrested and for the exact numbers arrested, and for the organizers estimate of the crowd size, go to sites of the groups linked in the above cited press release.

Cindy Sheehan arrested again. The anti-war movement isn't over. The people that want justice on the torture issue are still there. They are just as determined during the Obama administration as they were in the Bush administration.

It has been ongoing since 1913, when we got both the Federal Reserve and the Income Tax. From that point on this country was doomed.

I am curious though what aspect of "the sixties" you feel contributed to the US's fiscal and moral bankruptcy.
Or are you talking about the EIGHTEEN-sixties, and Lincoln's war against Southern Independence? That could qualify too.....

What a contrast. When Bush was in office people rarely protested,or complained about the government compared to Obama's watch. The Bush administration had the masses scared to death of protesting or speaking out. Unfortunately, the current protestors are made about issues created under Bush. It doesn't look like Obama can win any way you look at it.

Obama acted as if he were a 'differn't kind of politician than Bush and all he has done is jump behind the wheel of the same car Bush was driving, who jumped in the same car Clinton was driving, with Bush, Reagan, Carter and so on before them,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the thing is becoming a junker now,,,, but hey if you want to think OBAMA is 'different' go ahead,,, I'm sure it makes you sleep better.

Getting arrested for protesting the wars ???
Reply
My My My !!!!
With all the problems we face here at home and abroad, we have money to waste processing war protestors ????
Wow !!!!
Hey here is an idea. Why not spend that time and effort arresting some sick son of a dog who hurts children, or who threatens the president with violence.
But then again, it would not please the monied class to actually concentrate on real crime. Why we might have time to investigate their crimes as well.
I'm sick of the lies.-

There is a permit process for planning protests in DC. No one has a right to protest when and where they choose, especially where endangering federal officials is concerned.

Seems strange explaining this to the crowd that thinks every whitey is out to get Obama.

Change you can believe in = SSDD.

Just got an e-mail from a local activist who recently moved to Pennsylvania- she was talking about the police ambush at the university there during the G-20, the false arrests, the use of sonic cannons, tear-gas and pepper spray.
We need to keep up the fight. Not much has changed in DC except the faces. -

I think the point is...the Afganistan war has been going on for 8 years...do we cut loose and let all those lives lost have been in vain, or do we plan a new strategy that will resolve the issues and get us out as quickly as possible? I am not in favor of war, never have been, but we are there and have to deal with it.

If it's now been 8 years of "strategy" that has worked so poorly we now need to "plan a new" one, then those lives have ALREADY been lost in vain. If the last eight years hasn't been long enough to come up with an effective strategy, what makes you think one is going to magically be devised now? Did all those pointy-heads at the Pentagon get smarter all of a sudden? What is the projected time-frame for developing and implementing this new strategy? A month? A year? Eight MORE years?? How long do we need to "deal with it"?
Reply
Five words from Obama, speaking as CIC to the Joint Chiefs, will be sufficient for a "new" strategy: "Bring them home, right now." Two more words, speaking as President of the US to what passes for the Afghan government: "Good Luck."
On to Iraq, same seven words.
And there you have it. Strategy implemented, soldiers home, no more American kids dying in vain.

some of you folks are way out there. How do you think we can pull out of Afghanistan? We have obviously ****** off most Arabs and Muslims. All that will be accomplished by a pullout is giving them more leeway to attack us on our own soil. Just because it came out of Bush's mouth doesnt make it untrue.

Explain, in detail, how us being over there somehow prevents terrorists from presently striking in this country. Give me the logistics of how that actually works: Do we have them literally pinned down in caves, to where they can't get out, come over here, attend the flight schools and hijack the airliners, spread some anthrax, blow up a suitcase nuke.....whatever their evil plans may be? Is that what you're saying? That our soldiers being OVER THERE keeps EACH AND EVERY TERRORIST IN EXISTENCE from mounting an attack HERE? How does that work???
Reply
Here's the corollary to your premise: Just because not every single thing that came out of Bush's mouth was necessarily untrue, does not mean that the idiotic little platitude of "we have to fight them over there so we don't fight them over here" was not an absolute lie. That particular piece of sophistry is one of the most insidious cons ever committed on our citizenry, and it worked because gullible people like you swallowed it right down.
Wake up.
