Using a mathematical model to predict population trends based on ancient coin hoards, a UConn biologist and a Stanford University historian have concluded that the population of ancient Rome was smaller than sometimes suggested.

    This is facinating to me,
    - but I am kinda doubtful.

    Calculating population density from
    the frequency of money buried,
    just seems a little off.

    Too many variables,
    like how much was there to be buried;
    and how much was recovered later,
    etc.

    Cool work though.
