The examples I sighted ARE extremist positions when looked at through the lens of a constitutional republic. Your examples are the extreme of extremists positions. How about staying, in historical terms, within the the last half century or so?-

I have to give credit to the wingnut attack machine for cranking it out up-to-the-minute...

Buck, I'm no fan of the Patriot Act, regardless of who voted for it. (Btw, in our Constitutional republic, Obama is simply not allowed to strike it down--it's not within his power.) Cap and trade simply doesn't qualify as an extremist position under any stretch of your warped imagination. It's just a policy you don't like.

My examples are ones that demonstrate without question that extremism has been the cause of the worst abuses of power in history. And that's the point I originally made--when you see the world only in black and white, you're bound to cause trouble for everyone.-

he doesn't WANT to take it down. He likes it!
Wow! Re-read the propsals under Cap and trade, and tell me that's not extremist; and tell me exactly where they get the right to pass this kind of legislation under the Constitution?-

It doesn't matter what he thinks about the Patriot Act. Only Congress can repeal it or the Supreme Court can strike it down as unconstitutional, which it is. So there's really no point to your argument that he likes it.

To my mind, extremism involves a complete disregard for the wishes of anyone except yourself and your followers. Even direct violations of the Constitution are not necessarily extremist (which is not to say I approve of them).
If you want to include cap and trade under that, you're entitled to your opinion. But so am I--my opinion is that your opinion is absurd.
And again--back to the real point. True extremism always leads to oppression. It IS a vice, Goldwater notwithstanding.
