Toyota is suffering from the same problem that afflicts every successful company. Rapid growth has led to short cuts in their growth model which has caused some problems with maintaining their quality. Previously, Toyota's mantra was to constantly improve product and process but the pressure to expand market share and capitalize on reputation has led to some bad decisions. That being said, they are now the largest car maker in the world with the recent contraction of GM and I think it is unlikely that will change any time soon. Every company, no matter how successful, will make mistakes on its way up.
