Bill Maher: Repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Because It Will Make Rush Limbaugh "Explode" (VIDEO) »
Posted By smithichie 1 month, 2 weeks ago in Political OpinionOn Real Time Friday night Bill Maher suggested that this weekend was the perfect time for President Obama to announce that he would repeal "don't ask, don't tell," due to the fact that Obama will be speaking to a gay rights group on Saturday and because of the march for gay rights in Washington Sunday. Maher referred to "don't ask, don't tell'' as a policy that "never made sense to begin with."

Sexuality has no place in the military.

I don't care if you're straight or gay or celibate or what...why does anyone have to know or care or inquire in the first place? Why is it even an issue?
I agree that people shouldn't disrupt the rank and file with their sexuality, but I think that goes for EVERYONE. I think it is just as disruptive to have men passing around a prostitute as it would be for two men or two women to be engaging in sexual behavior in front of others while on duty. Keep the sexuality where it belongs........OFF DUTY. When you're on duty, you have a job to do and that job doesn't include your sexuality, regardless of if you're straight or gay.
They should repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" because that isn't what it is. If it were truly don't ask, don't tell, then we wouldn't see people being dismissed because it was "found out" that they were gay. If they didn't TELL anyone, but happened to be "seen" somewhere off duty, that's not a violation. And then it shouldn't lead to any "investigation" because THAT violates the whole "don't ask" portion of the rule. So, since it isn't what it pretends to be, they should get rid of it and just forget about a person's sexuality when entering the military. I mean really.......if we don't care that we have priests who rape little boys and still send money to the church who protects these monsters, why should anyone care about what two CONSENTING ADULTS do on their own time?
Priorities people. We lost how many interpreters when it found out they were gay under Bush after the war started? What did getting rid of them gain, except a lack of interpreters that is? Unless they are disrupting their unit by coming onto their colleagues, I don't see where their sexuality is an issue. Military service should be based solely on JOB performance, not SEXUAL performance. -

jmopinion, I'd like to know what you base your "opinion" on. Why would it be demoralizing?

Gays would be under the same military laws that prohibit such behavior between or among members of the military so there would always be that to hold them back.
Allowing gays in would only have consequences if they did anything unlawful.
It seems to me that you only wish to add fuel to the debate fire with no real basis for your argument. -

WTH is wrong with you? Homosexual people have served their country well just as heterosexuals have. And all you can think about is SEX? Where is your mind? Have you ever heard of a homosexual man raping a heterosexual man in tthe military? NO! But you damn sure HAVE heard of heterosexuals raping women in our military!!! Where is your outrage? HUH? Where??? You have a problem, and you'd be wise to look into it.

I was in the Army. In our company in Vietnam the gays (they weren't called that back then)had their own hootch and generally stayed out of sight. One night I was assigned guard duty with one. He decided to play grab a$$ with me. Bad idea. Anyway, I was left out there by myself that night.

I am opposed to gays in combat units especially, and all units generally. With communal barracks, latrines, showers, and mess halls there are too many opportunities for bad things to happen.-

Homosexual men have served well in our military since its inception. To take one incident and paint all of these honorable men with that experience is nothing short of bigotry. By your analogy, heterosexual troops should NOT be allowed near female troops, and especially never allowed to have a 'superior' position over them. Because the attack of females IS a serious problem in our military.

I wonder what such a survey done in the 1950's asking white soldiers what they thought about serving with blacks would have shown?

When I was in the Army I was frequently told that my opinion didn't matter, I was simply a piece of equipment that was there to follow orders.

jmopinion, please put on your thinking cap and try to think through what you are saying. You aren't making very much of an argument. You just like to throw out random phrases that you hear from your con-brethren.
