This was the one thing that really impressed me - I am sorry that he has not followed up on this vow.

President-elect Barack Obama vowed today to get rid of federal programs that no longer make sense and run others in a more frugal way to make Washington work in tough economic times.

President-elect Barack Obama vowed today to get rid of federal programs that no longer make sense and run others in a more frugal way to make Washington work in tough economic times.

Obama said that to make the needed investments to create jobs, "we also have to shed the spending we don't need."

"In these challenging times, when we are facing both rising deficits and a sinking economy, budget reform is not an option.

It is an imperative," Obama said. "We cannot sustain a system that bleeds billions of taxpayer dollars on programs that have outlived their usefulness, or exist solely because of the power of a politicians, lobbyists, or interest groups.

We simply cannot afford it. This isn’t about big government or small government. It’s about building a smarter government that focuses on what works. That is why I will ask my new team to think anew and act anew to meet our new challenges....

We will go through our federal budget – page by page, line by line – eliminating those programs we don’t need, and insisting that those we do operate in a sensible cost-effective way."

You can keep your shoes on an put one hand in your pocket, and still have more fingers left over if your counting programs deleted. These programs are stacked like cord wood nobody is going to tackle them.I don't think our country is as well protected as these boondoggles that hand out cash like an ATM.

I sincerely hope that somehow, President Obama (may the Peace Prize be upon him) will deliver on the promise that he made, that was cited in the article. It sounds like a process with many merits, and one that is long overdue!

And if he does, I will be happy to congratulate him.

      Really!

Promises, promises, promises. Talk is cheap and Obama is a cheap talk master.

So is The 0 Man ceding that the Stimulus Bill(used for political pay offs and lobbyists interests), like the Cash for Clunkers program(interest group, the UAW), hasn't worked to rescue the economy like he said they would?
