Conservatives unable to put hatred of Obama aside »
Posted By ameliog 1 month, 2 weeks ago in Political OpinionRepublicans always claim that leaders in the Democratic Party are socialists and communists.
This same argument was used against President Wilson when he tried to create a League of Nations to pull the world together after World War I. The same rhetoric was used against Roosevelt during the Great Depression when his Democratic principles led to the creation of radical groups, such as the WPA, FDIC, SEC and Social Security Administration.
Kennedy and Johnson were demonized and accused of socialism in the same way when they advocated universal health care and passed Medicare. Similarly, Newt Gingrich accused President Clinton of being a communist when he raised taxes on the wealthiest 1.2 percent of Americans to balance the budget.
With such a long and proud history of using the same argument, one would expect conservatives could appropriately articulate their propaganda.
But today’s Republican leaders lack credibility.

Republicans/conservatives/the Right have been from their inception stained with the darkest legacies of the American character - narrow-mindedness, provincialism, anti-intellectualism, coldheartedness, bigotry - and its ascendancy has been a continual narrative of reactionary or rearguard actions.

I don't know what party they are anymore..they say they are republican, but nothing they do,nothing they say reflects their so called values. The only things they seem to stand for are war,a form of corporate fascism, the rich..What do they want besides total control of government..They are a sick bunch that seem to base everything they do on lies and fear.

The President is not confused. If you believe he is, then it is you who are confused. Socialism has worked in this country since the Robber Barrons were stripped of the power to abuse workers and create monopolies.

Saying someone supports or believes in Socialism isn't being a hateful person. Socialism has never work in other countries of this world, has it worked in Russia, has it worked in South America, has it worked in Cuba, has it worked in Europe ?

But so has unrestrained, unregulated, laissez faire Capitalism. As the Great Depression and the Great Recession of 2008 have shown, Capitalism is amoral and drives corporations to pursue only profits without regard to ethics, common sense, risk avoidance, and social responsibilities.
All those mortgage companies and banks issued dangerous mortgages, collected their commissions, bundled the mortgages into investment bundles, and sold them to unsuspecting investors.
Thus they keep all the profits from the commissions, but pass the risk along to the next investor in line, who take on all the risks - unknowingly in many cases.
Insurance industry is the second most profitable industry in the country. They collect the premiums from low-risk, healthy patients and families and drop the sick ones who try to get medical care. The sick get no coverage just when they need care the most. Again, these companies collect their profits and shirk their responsibility to provide expensive medical care that clients pay for.
Then the insurance industry cuts out competition by lobbying for the elimination of the public option for coverage by the government. Thus preserving their tremendous profits and limiting their losses on the backs of sick patients.
Neocons like you love to shout out and focus only on buzzwords like Socialism, Communism, and Capitalism without analyzing the real advantages and disadvantages of each system.
Capitalism is still the best economic system yet devised by man, but it has to be tempered by ethical rules, by social responsibilities, and by moral behavior.
That is why we must extend health care and health care insurance to all individuals in our society. That is why we must pass the health care reform package and the public option.
That is not pure socialism nor pure capitalism. That is balancing excessive capitalism with social responsibility. That is ethical.
Socialism also plays a critical role in the care and well being of the elderly, the poor, especially the children, the handicapped, the struggling families, the homeless, the uninsured, and the uninsurable.
Capitalism has no regard for any of these groups of citizens. Socialism forces capitalism to look at those outside the capitalistic world and who can not benefit from capitalism and are suffering.
