Arms outstretched, his deep voice resonating around the town hall, the
white-bearded speaker summoned the Afrikaner “volk” to battle, with rousing
words from the past.

This reminds me of something General Douglas McArthur once stated: "Old Soldiers Never Die, They Just Fade Away".

Taken somewhat further and applied to Politicans, the altered statement might be:

"Old Politicians Never Quit Ruminating, They Just Keep Up Their Blather"

And sometimes what really was, is changed by the propaganda from history to present a different picture from what really occurred. As an example (in keeping with the White Supremacists theme).

In America probably the most remember and slandered anti-integration Politician was Orval Eugene Faubus, Governor of Arkansas. I will bet that not one in ten thousand people know that when he first ran for Governor his Candidacy Plank was to Integrate the Schools of Arkansas. And he was elected by the citizens to do just that. Once in office he got busy doing what he had promised. By 1954 a plan was formulated to have all schools in Arkansas totally integrated by 1963.

The first Arkansas school and the first in the old Confederacy was integrated in 1954 ( Charleston, Arkansas ). Unfortunately for the Country and Faubus, Congress passed a law that would give civil rights challengers payment for their efforts whether they prevailed in court with their lawsuit or not. Thus was born a new Lawyer Industry. Bring a suit - you couldn't lose, in other words you got paid. Many millionaires were made using this farce foisted on the public ( their taxes paid for the lawsuits) and the result is what you read in history.

The Attorney General and a Cabal of Lawyers brought suit to overthrow the Arkansas Plan and make a bunch of money at the same time. President Eisenhower went for it. And Little Rock Central which was scheduled for Integration in 1957 by the original plan was integrated in 1957 by Court Order and troops condemning to history the man who ran for office to correct a wrong. Interesting isn't it, this power of money - or rather the pursuit of it.
