53 House Republicans call on Obama to fire Kevin Jennings | Washington Examiner »
Posted By RTHTGakaRoland 1 month, 1 week ago in Political NewsA group of 53 Republican members of the House has sent a letter to the president asking for the removal of Kevin Jennings, the gay activist who now runs the Education Department's Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools. "It is clear that Mr. Jennings lacks the appropriate qualifications and ethical standards to serve in this capacity," the lawmakers write.
Jennings has come under heavy criticism from many conservatives for, among other things, his work to introduce gay themes into the nation's classrooms, including elementary schools; the foreword he wrote for a book entitled Queering Elementary Education; his lack of experience in school safety and drug issues; some of the work of the organization he founded, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network; and his handling of an incident in 1988 in which, as a high school teacher, Jennings was approached by a sophomore boy who confided that he had become involved with an older man, and Jennings, rather than notify school authorities, simply advised the boy to use a condom.

True, yet the meaning of the word 'normal' is always subjective.
Reply
In short this kinda' tells you the kind of people The 0 Man views as 'normal' don't cha' know.
For let's keep it in mind that The 0 Man attendended a church where the preacher, a person 0Bama considered as a father figure, ranted about the 'US of KKK A' for years while he, The 0 Man, was in attendance and didn't hear, or even 'see', anything that could in his view, be considered abnormal. -

Whatever two consenting adults choose to do in their homes is their business. That being said it would appear this individual has shown very poor judgment in regards to the fifteen year old boy involved with a older man, when all he did was suggest the boy use a condom. This is very unethical. I am sure someone would be willing to label me a bigot for stating that, but I would feel the same way if the student were involved in a heterosexual relationship with older person.

This is part of the double standard of political correctness, and it is disappointing that this man was selected because he was gay "wow another first", without looking into this mans past or agenda. Kick his @ss to the curb-

I'll say it here again, the article is lying, the boy was sixteen at the time of the incident which was the legal age of consent in the state this occured in. They've released his (partially censored) driver's license proving his age. It's a nonissue, Jennings did nothing wrong.

The gayness itself is is such a non-issue that I don't understand why the far right is so emotionally driven by it. (Of course, they are driven by their belief to subjugate women based on ancient misogynists' "sacred" writings, too.)

Denying that people are gay is silly. We know people are gay, we know they first recognize it in early childhood in most cases, and we know that people have gays in their families--siblings, cousins, parents, etc. Denying it is not in anyone's best interest. I think that, if a child is experiencing early signs of being gay, it is healthy for them to learn there are others like them that make up a minority of our population.
Of course, I think that sex education is important, too, and that abstinence-only education is counterproductive. I don't view myself as "progressive" on these topics, just rational.
The far right is a research topic in and of itself. If you focus on this guy, focus on what he did or said that was outside the law rather than his being gay. -

Looks like you cons are against an education. Homosexuality is a reality whether you like it or not.Educating people to the realities of life is not a bad thing.Perhaps by educating our young citizens about the realities of sexual orientation would reduce the incidence of hate crime and intolerance towards people with homosexual tendencies. I know you cons love to foster your ignorance and bigotry but it is wrong and you know it.

If this had been a story about a conservative doing nothing more than advising a high school girl to use condoms while having sex with an older man the liberals would be screaming. It would be front page on the NYTimes and WaPo.

Apparently, most liberals have no problem with older men boinking high school boys though. -

Do you want Kevin Jennings controlling what is taught to your children and granchidren in their school? Before they even know what 'sexual orientation' is they are learning of homosexuality. He is gay rights activist and he and his co-horts will stop at nothing to alter your childs way of thinking.

Let me ask you: has any safe schools czar or equivilant of in the past ever indoctrinated children into heterosexuality before they learned what sexual orientation was? They didn't? Goodness then why do you feel that Jennings will be any different?
Reply
Oh that's right, he's homosexual and that means he's different and to be feared right? You're disgusting and ought to be ashamed of yourself. -

omaggie, Kevin Jennings has no control over curriculum. He doesn't "control what is taught to your children and grandchildren."
Reply
I certainly wouldn't want you or anyone with such sloppy reasoning as you controlling what is taught to them either.

Activist who are promoting an agenda that is inappropriate to be in our schools should not be given a platform with our youth to push any opinions. The homosexual lifestyle is abnormal and it should not be taught in our schools. This man does not have the morality needed for this position.

You mean like those who say "the homosexual lifestyle is abnormal" or those who think teaching abstinence only is a realistic way to prevent STDs and teen pregnancies? -

You clearly have no idea what homosexuality is or a concept of morality beyond what your daddy beat into you while listening to a James Dobson "book on tape" describing how to beat children into submission. Go take a Psych 100 class a World Philosophers on Death class and come back to me. See if you learn something. Also: read the DSM-IV/DSM-V, do you see homosexuality listed as a mental disorder? Nawww, I didn't think so.

Bad enough that our Fed Gov't is loaded with cheats and liars. Now the DEMS have allowed the pigs in, too. It does not matter what you think your Congressmen have done for your State, if they vote for any of Obamas' radical agenda, they need to be voted out in 2010 and 2012. Isn't anyone else enraged that Harry Reids' state of Nevada is going to be exempt from many of the mandates that are now in the DEATHCARE bills? Nevada has one of the largest memberships in SEIU, and Harry Reids' popularity is in the toilet. Soros, TIDES, APOLLO, ACORN, SEIU...Obama thugs, all.
