Exposing Fox News »
Posted By ybdogsct 1 month, 1 week ago in Political OpinionFox News proponents like to boast about Fox's ratings. But high ratings does NOT equate to high quality journalism, any more than Britney Spears' album sales elevated her tired riffs to a well-respected art form.
Instead of ratings, this article decided to use a different metric to judge the quality of journalism. It uses the most prominent honors and awards in journalism as the criteria for comparing several news organizations, including Fox News.

the claim that fox is the most popular (but not the most credible) is an extension of the current pseudo populist meme of the right in this country. that pseudo populism is a laugh riot of an oxymoron in it's own right.
Reply
ratings may make it the most watched, perhaps because many on the right refuse to go anywhere else to get their information, but it doesn't mean that these people are better informed, or that fox does a great job vetting their stories.
i'm not saying that fox is completely bereft of stories with some legitimate meat on their bones, but when it comes to politics, fox news does a terrible job of being objective.
for those who will use the old saw of denigrating the organizations that award good journalism and practice, we've seen quite enough of that bs re the nobel peace prize committee from you already.-

Right Wingers on Propeller thump their chests about FOX ratings ... but when I read these vainglorious posts ... I shake my head and say ... "Don't these people understand that they are actually vilifying what they intend to promote?"
I mean ... look ... American Idol ratings are through the roof ... but does that validate the viewers for their credibility and taste?
Same with Britney Spears.
Same with Anna Nichole Smith.
Same with Jon and Kate Goslin.
People flock to mindless entertainment. Does that make it more credible ... or important?
It's ludicrous to think it does.

That's to be expected. Anyone who believes every word from their preacher's mouth is a good candidate for Fox News. How confortable it must be for them to not have to think...just take every word on faith. Pathetic!

There are still a lot of people who refused to get themselves informed, educated on issues facing the world today.
There are still a lot of people who cannot take the data, analyse them and come to a logical conclusion.
These people are easily sway by lies and fear tactics. How can we correct this problem? -

"These are the most prestigious awards in broadcast journalism, reflecting the views of respected peers in the field. So what is the final tally?
CBS News: 154
ABC News: 122
NBC News: 114
PBS: 42
CNN: 33
BBC News: 15
MSNBC: 3
CNBC: 3
Dumont: 1
Fox News Channel: 0
There are at least two salient points to be drawn from this cursory analysis.
CBS News actually deserves the title "The Most Honored Name in News" and not CNN.
Fox News Channel has won fewer journalism awards than any other major news organization. This includes a network that has been off the air for more than half a century!
There is no longer a need to bemoan the fact that Fox News is faux news, or to wish that the Congressional Black Caucus would not support Fox News with a debate, or to long for the day that their talking heads explode. Instead, just cite these facts as proof that no respected members of the journalism community view Fox News Channel as news.
You're welcome."
Well it pretty much says it all !!!
All ya Fox news devotees, well hey ya might want to actually tune into some real news daily. Compare what is really happening with what Fox claims is happening.
Ya know we might have been able to stop the runaway recession, if ya hadn't bought into the lies for so long.
Oh but wait !!! Fox says it is the liberals fault. Hahahahahaahahaahaa
Yeah we all know what a great truth teller they are !!!!-

Them there awards aint worth the toilet paper they're written on! It's a conspiracy and a circle-jerk, y'all. In fact, it PROVES Fox is the only one telling the REAL TRUTH! Did the Weekly World News ever win one of them 'awards'? NO! But they broke the story about Hillary Clinton having that alien baby didn't they! That should have been a Pulitzer right there!

What all you libs ignore is that awards mean very little. Especially since these are all liberal organizations. And then you rant about how bad FOX is because people who think like you do not give them any awards. LOL
Reply
The real award is the ratings. When a movie gets high acclaim from the critics and fails at the box office it is a flop. A movie that is given bad reviews and is a box office smash is very successful and will probably have sequels. Box office receipts is the real awards for movies. Therefore in TV the real award is the ratings which show how many people are watching. Awards are only braging rights and do not add one cent in revenue. Ratings without any awards adds a lot of money to the revenue. They laugh at the awards all the way to the bank.
Suck it up libs. This is much ado about nothing.

Good stuff Cowboy. Very few in America are truly informed. One needs to be a full time seeker of credible information and consult all the American as well as foreign and alternative news outlets in order to circle the truth.

Anyone who gets all their information from one source, or even a couple sources that feed out of the same trough, should be highly suspect. -

This story is very laughable. A bunch of liberal awarding groups do not give anything to FOX. Gee I wonder why?
Reply
The real award is ratings. A highly acclaimed movie that does not make money is still a flop. An ignored movie that makes it big at the box office is still a major success.
Try and diminish the rating all you want but that is the real method that gets the money. Suck it up libs. Awards mean relatively little. Just bragging rights but no money in the pocket.-

If money is your only standard for success, you are correct. This is clearly the Fox paradigm, since they have no journalistic integrity, nor do they seem to care.
Me? I'd rather my doctor read 'New England Journal of Medicine' than 'People' any day (even though 'People' FAR outsells NEJM). -

Well, if money is the determiner of worth, then I guess Van Gogh was a terrible painter....Until 30 years after his death, when he suddenly became a genius. What logic! A flop is often not recognized as a masterwork until later, merely proving that the sheep who patronize a popular event--and/or avoid a sleeper--do not necessarily know up from down. That's why we have awards! Or should the Oscar just go to the biggest box-office hit every year? Avoid all that pesky voting-stuff.
Reply
To go from "Fox makes the most money" to "Fox is the best, most truthful source of news" is...gee is there a word for that kind of logic? Back in the day, before Murdoch's money-maker plopped onto the airwaves, the (ha ha) "liberal" mainstream news covered liberal and conservative politics with something rarely seen now, a pretty darned even hand. Scoff all you want, neocons, but I remember the coverage of ol right-wing-nut George Wallace during the school desegregation riots..and you know what? Those "lib" reporters just talked about the facts..."he said this"..."then this occurred"...no demonization of the governor or even of his viewpoints, they were merely facts for us to learn and analyze on our own! Fox is all about ridicule, demonizing, marginalizing the opposition (liberals) no matter where or what. Have you ever seen a positive story on Fox about a Democrat? Their commentator for the 2000 Dem convention said, as Al Gore began to address the crowd, "and now Gore is speaking about..um...oh well, who cares?" followed by a laugh and cut to another story...whatever your feelings about Gore, no broadcaster in the "bad" old days of real journalism would ever have treated a public office-holder that way, whatever his political stripe. So don't tell me about Fox's "objectivity" or "truth". They have one goal only (behind making an Aussie very rich)...and that is shilling for the forces of the right wing, whatever they do, whatever the facts may be. You can keep it...but don't be surprised when reality smacks you 'cause you didn't hear about it ahead of time in the echo-chamber. -

MSNBC was launched in 1996, the same year as FOX, and they have already garnered 3 awards for excellence.
Reply
While lack of established longevity has some influence on the number of awards, due to the fact that awards are annual recognitions and the fewer the years competing equates to fewer chances at winning. However, it certainly isn't an excuse for ZERO awards, as MSNBC proves by garnering 3 in the same time frame (1996-present) as FOX has been on air. -

There's just one problem with your "analysis." Fox hasn't simply won a fewer number of awards than the other news outlets; Fox has won ZERO awards. That means even if you restrict the data to 1996-present, FOX STILL COMES IN LAST .

Fox News is one of the few credible news media sources that give both sides of the story and let you decide...unlike your left wing progressive socialist hopefuls news programs, and professors who have brainwashed them and many of you young ones.... which by the way are the same ones who give out the prestigious capitalistic awards. It would be a dishonor to get one in my opinion...it just proves you are being mislead. The other news programs are in Dems pocket and the anointed one cannot be criticized by them or any "racists" which makes him very different from all the other presidents of this once great country. They have left out and refused to cover so very many crucially important news events that I often wonder why anyone in their right mind would waste their time watching these sold out to the one world order anti American elitist thugs for any true correct information. I have caught them in so many lies that I can't watch them any longer. By the way, did you see the shocking video of Kissinger saying that they are grooming Obama to be the head of the U.N. In a few years you all will get that one world order some of you foolishly long for and your freedom will be gone forever. We all can't have everything that is just a fact of life...so if we have to choose who gets it, let the hard working good people get it and then they will help the ones who can't help themselves...that is the way God intended it....and He is the boss! Govt only wants power to take away your freedoms...this one is very corrupt now. See Foxnews and see the truth.

So, what I get from the comments over all is that those followers of the Church of Republican are trying to say 'it's all lies, Fox is the greatest, don't watch anything else because that might make me change my mind with the liberal/socialist/Illuminati/zombie-nazi/alien hypno-ray, and would you like some kool-aid too?' Quality in the broadcasted programs is much more important than high ratings. Journalism should have the gain of being trustworthy. When I watch the news on TV or listen to them on the radio, I want to be informed seriously and objectively, without any political tendence. FOX is, in a very uniliteral way, a political broadcaster. It is not the worst method to test out a program´s quality by coparing the number of journalistic awards it could win. Ratings can be influenced in many ways. They can be caused by the adaption to the viewer´s preferences and habits, by PR and by the connection of different media, supporting one another. Maybe FOX is popular, but this is by no means a synomymon to credibility.
