Hi, Dencuddy. In another article you made a comment -- as off-topic as this one --about people who go to articles long after they are "off the front page" and rate comments positive or negative through sock puppets.
Reply
Are you implying that the front page has ceased being a farce and a joke? I quit reading it in disgust after seeing that it had not improved one whit in two years. I even posted to an article that was still there after over one day, with a mere 23 props and 22 views (apparently at least one person propped it without viewing it) and not a single comment--in fact to this day mine was the only comment.
I commented how more recently posted story, with 85 props and 5 comments and not a single drop, and over a hundred viewers, didn't make the Front Page.
In contrast, I said, "NONE of the Front Page stories has more than 44 props, and most have under 30, and one even has 12 drops along with a mere 28 props."
Are you so naive that you go to little else besides the front page?

Yes, you don't even have to read the article to say that it is racist. All you need to see is that it was posted by btatman, and that it has to do with race relations.

Oh? you read the article? Then tell me, please, what it is that makes it racist? -

Pretty strong words Den. Could you point out to me just what racism is? Or is it something like the old pornography saw, that you can't define it, though you know it when you see it?
Reply
I always found it just a little unusual how certain political quarters seem to make the assumption that people who are called "black" are so unaccomplished or so helpless that they can't succeed without the help with those political quarters. Don't think I'd call it racism; but a "black" might be justified in feeling vaguely insulted by that assumption.
Personally, I sort of live on both sides of the fence. I have three children who are defined as minorities (Asian), though I am not. Each of them has different abilities and tempraments--no thanks to me since genetics aren't involved. They've all been suject to episodes of what I consider racism (how else to explain grown men complaining to a 10-year old Korean child about Japanese cars?). And, as parents do, sometimes I've made an *ss of myself "protecting" them.
I've also told them that I had no qualms about their pointing out their race if they thought it could help them. Don't think that any of them ever have. Though I do think that my daughter got into an exclusive private high school in part because of her race. Her grades may or may not have been enough; but her grades and being Korean certainly were. It was a good fit for her. Even if any of it was my doing (it wasn't), I wouldn't have apologized for it.
As I read this article, it seems to me to point out with some skepticism the political stereotyping of "blacks". Adhere to one political philosophy and you're fine; adhere to another and you're somewhat less than that. I'm not going to argue that there aren't any racists among Repubs. I'm sure there are; just as I'm sure that under some definition racism exists in many places. One could even construe "EEOC" thinking ("you need us to make it") as racist if one would want to.
Two of my children are married now, interracial marriages if you will. I've got three biracial (if you adhere to the concept of race) grandchildren, whom I love dearly. I'll be long dead before they grow up; but I would like to see that their ethnic backgound is not held against them. Not sure that name-calling, no matter what end of the political spectrum it comes from, helps that.

I must say that I am surprised at the reactionary response to the title of my article alone. Not to read it based on the title strikes me as the height of closed minded immaturity. I can assure you that the article is not racist-it does however examine racism and the perpetuation of ignorance as exemplified by some on this site.

I am a Christian and a black man, the article reflects my perspective as such. Read the article, then impeach it's thesis if you can, but don't dismiss it in blind ignorance. -

Fascinating, the depths to which self-appointed censors will sink: DigitalPublius's plea for reasonableness towards his article gets a 50% rating. I'd like to see ANYONE explain why it should be rated negative, and why the article, written by an African-American, is supposed to be racist.

I've asked details of DenCuddy, as to why the very words of the title mark it as a racist article, and BronxBomber decided to mark it negative -- without giving me the courtesy of a reply.
He did responded to another statement of mine with insults but nary an explanation as to why the title or the article is supposed to be racist.-

Here is an excerpt from an article about how condescending some important people are towards African-Americans, while supposedly being on their side:
Reply
Obama's Justice Department has ruled against the actions of the town of Kinston, North Carolina. What did this town do that was so terrible? The residents voted overwhelmingly to eliminate partisan elections for mayor and city council members. The Justice Department stepped in and said, "Whoa! Wait just a second!" According to the Justice Department, blacks in Kinston must have the Democrat Party in order to elect their "candidate of choice." How insulting! Basically, what Obama's team is saying is that blacks will only vote for Democrats, and without the party label, blacks can't figure out for themselves which candidate will get their vote. This is not only a slap in the face of the voters, but it continues Obama's efforts to divide people along racial lines rather than bring them together.
The Washington Times has an excellent accounting of what is happening in this small North Carolina city. Following a city vote to do away with partisan elections for city offices, the Justice Department blocked the action:
The Justice Department's ruling, which affects races for City Council and mayor, went so far as to say partisan elections are needed so that black voters can elect their "candidates of choice" - identified by the department as those who are Democrats and almost exclusively black. The department ruled that white voters in Kinston will vote for blacks only if they are Democrats and that therefore the city cannot get rid of party affiliations for local elections because that would violate black voters' right to elect the candidates they want.
Candidate of choice? Basically they are saying that blacks will ONLY vote for Democrats, and if there is no party label, they won't know what to do. Obama's team also continues to take steps backward in race relations. Saying that whites will only vote for a black if there is a party label attached smacks of blatant bigotry. Furthermore, to say that blacks can't figure out who their "candidate of choice" is without a party label, Justice Department officials are making a huge assumption about the intelligence of black voters.
