Westboro Baptist Church Counter Protest »

Students at Lincoln Southwest High School in Lincoln, Nebraska held a counter protest in response to a protest by Westboro Baptist Church members. Speculation on the reason for the protest is that the high school has been considering putting on a play to document the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard. Westboro Baptist Church maintains a web-site that celebrates the murder of Shepard by counting the days since he has been in "Hell".

I find myself agreeing with the Principal. Phelps and his ilk are best ignored, they feed off attention, ANY attention, but dang, how can a person not be proud of these students for peacefully standing up against these nutjobs.

I don't know about anyone else, but I plan on being front and center at the funeral, with my offensive sign, when Sr. Phelps finally kicks. I am usually in the camp where two wrongs don't make a right, but some folks deserve a taste of their own medicine.-

Those people feed off attention like a stripper whose Daddy didn't love her enough. On the other hand, those students are outstanding examples of why this country has survived as long as it has, despite our many flaws.

I don't think God ever spoke to them and said to do this !!!
God despises sexual immorality period not just same sex immorality.
It makes me wonder if they understand the immorality of sleeping with your relatives ??? I would think not since they seem to be inbred.
Lack of mental acuity happens a lot with that !!!! They seem to be experiencing that quite noticably. Hahahahahaahaaaaaa !!!!! -

It kind of sounds like most of the posters here agree with Phelps. At least they prefer to respond with anger, name calling and threats.

The true story here is we have a group of people who have been beaten and forced into this "life of hatred" since they could walk. (try a web search for "Michael Bell vs Stauffers Communication" or http://www.blank.org/addict/orig.addict.html and read for yourself.)
It's the apathy and indifference of the community in which they were raised that allowed them to be tortured and abused into the "Church" you see today.
Give them your sympathy and love. It not only helps counter their hatred, but, it really ****** them off. Equally, any time you might spend on the Phelps could have been better spent supporting the families or doing something positive for your community. This also, will really **** them off, they hate to be ignored.
So, Love them and ignore them, encourage others to do the same. Spreading and amplifying their violence is how they win.
