I've Got You Under My Skin - Again: Axelrod, Emanuel attack Fox News on morning shows »

Via Breitbart, your White House talking point du jour expressed in nearly identical terms on two different shows: Unlike MSNBC and the rest of the media that these two control, Fox isn’t “real news” because it comes with a slant. Candygram for Ax and Rahm from the New York Times: Cease and desist.

have got you under my skin
I've got you deep in the heart of me

    So deep in my heart
You're nearly a part of me
I've got you under my skin

I have tried so not to give in
I have said to myself this affair
    Never gonna go somewhere

But why should I try to resist
When baby I know so well
That I've got you under my skin

    FTA

People who work in political communications have pointed out that it is a principle of power dynamics to “punch up “ — that is, to take on bigger foes, not smaller ones. A blog on the White House Web site that uses a “truth-o-meter” against a particular cable news network would not seem to qualify. As it is, Reality Check sounds a bit like the blog of some unemployed guy living in his parents’ basement, not an official communiqué from Pennsylvania Avenue.

The anti-Fox strategy makes zero sense considering that (a) the public thinks the media is too liberal, which Fox uses to frame itself as a needed corrective, and (b) Fox’s most high-profile competition, such as it is, spent a fair chunk of the Bush years screaming about fascism and insisting that Roger Ailes runs a more dangerous organization than Osama Bin Laden. Not a good match-up. I assume the Fox-baiting is simply red meat they’re throwing to liberals to try to take the heat off on Afghanistan and “don’t ask, don’t tell,”

    Whiner-In-Chief
The Obama administration really needs to get over itself.

First, the president and his aides go to war with Fox News because the network maintains a generally anti-Obama slant.

Then, an anonymous administration aide attacks bloggers for failing to maintain a sufficiently pro-Obama slant.

    These are not disconnected developments.

An administration that won the White House with an almost always on-message campaign and generally friendly coverage from old and new media is now frustrated by its inability to control the debate and get the coverage it wants.

But before the president and his inner circle go all Spiro Agnew on us, they might want to consider three fundamental facts regarding relations between the executive branch and the fourth estate:

pretending has traditionally been a valuable part of the presidential playbook. Smiling and wearing beige even under the most withering news media assault is not only good manners, but also has generally been good politics. While there is undoubtedly a visceral thrill in finally setting out after your antagonists, the history of administrations that have successfully taken on the media and won is shorter than this sentence.

the administration, by deploying official resources against a troublesome media organization, seems to have brought a knife to a gunfight.

White House criticism of Fox increasing ratings: Murdoch

News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch said on Friday that White House criticism of commentators on his Fox News television channel had served to "tremendously" increase their ratings.

"There were some strong remarks coming out of the White House about one or two of the commentators on Fox News," Murdoch told the annual meeting of News Corp. shareholders here.

"And all I can tell you is that it's tremendously increased their ratings," he said.

Murdoch's remarks came after White House Communications Director Anita Dunn told The New York Times earlier this week that Fox News was "undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House."

It is amazing, that, with all of the issues REALLY important to the nation, that the present administration would take valuable time and resources to try and trash the First Amendment.

    News report:
    News Americas
    Troops close Honduras radio station
The interim government on Sunday announced a ban on unauthorized gatherings on Sunday [AFP]

Honduran soldiers have raided a radio station in the capital Tegucigalpa aligned with Manuel Zelaya, the ousted president, and shut down its operations.

Radio Globo de Tegucigalpa was taken off the air on Monday, a day after the military-backed interim government announced strict limits on civil liberties for 45 days.

"Soldiers assaulted the radio this morning, took over the station and took it off the air," David Romero, the radio station's director, said on Monday.

He said that all the staff had managed to "escape" and that no arrests had been made.

In a sign that the interim government is under pressure over the raids, the de facto president said that the restrictions on civil liberties would soon be lifted.

    Buildings surrounded

Radio Globo has a reporter inside the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa where Zelaya has been staying since he slipped back into the country a week ago in defiance of an arrest order against him.

Television station Cholusat Sur - viewed as critical of the interim government - was also raided early on Monday, Romero said.

Police and troops cordoned off the Radio Globo building and the offices of Cholusat Sur, witnesses said.

The stations were shut down a day after the government announced a media clampdown and a ban on unauthorised gatherings.

Both stations have been taken off air several times since the coup on June 28.

    'Final offensive'

The new media restrictions, announced on Sunday, came as Zelaya called for a peaceful "final offensive" to mark the three-month anniversary of the coup which removed him from power.

[Does Obama plan to shut down Fox News because they aren't favorable to him?]

I guess that FNC will take this bunch on and, of course, win again.

Fox is not a fat and weak 'media' giant; they are ripped and know how to fight back.

Good luck to The 0 Man and Co.. This one could get real ugly if not entertaining.

I find it fascinating that, on the one hand, the liberals belittle the significance of Fox, claiming that SpongeBob Squarepants has a larger audience and, with the other hand, demand it be shut down.
If Fox is that insignificant, why aren't the liberals mature enough to ignore it? And, when the Right returns to power and tries to do the same thing to the leftist-controlled media, who do you think will be screaming the loudest?

No matter. This is one time we on the right should emulate those on the left. When we return to power, we should treat the leftist media with the same respect that Obama treats Fox.

The more Obama complains about Fox the more people are going to wonder why Obama finds it such a threat.

If someone tunes into Fox, much more likely now that there is such a fuss, they may just wonder why he is so upset about it. It would make him look like a little person who whines every time someone doesn't express admiration.

it was much less of an attack and much more an explanation of why they are ignoring fox.

and for the vast majority of americans, the explanation was legit, and long overdue.

because fox is anything but legit. and everybody knows it.

When even The New York Times doesn't jump on board, you know that Fox Hunting is a turkey of a strategy for Team Obama.

        But some people never learn.

When the Obama administration says they are at war with a news and opinion television program it is difficult to think that the administration thinks of the country as a whole.

You know maybe those folks should get as mad at the Taliban and do something in Afghanistan. What pathetic excuses for a government we now have it's time to do something, Barry!

This whole thing among the right ... their efforts to be Politically Correct ... is so laughable.

It strains the bounds of credulity to pretend that FOX ... with a Republican STRATEGIST as President ... and who have NEVER tried to portray the Obama administration as anything other than the devil reincarnated ... is a NEWS organization.

It's entertainment for the right ... like Rush Limbaugh.

Why ... WHY the Political Correctness?

Under Brit Hume's leadership, "Special Report" was the highest rated political program on cable television. In this capacity, Hume also served as the Washington managing editor and was responsible for overseeing news content for FOX News' Washington bureau. He also anchored all network coverage for every presidential election from 1996-2008.

Before joining FOX News in 1996, Hume was with ABC News for 23 years, serving as chief White House correspondent from 1989 through 1996. During his tenure, he contributed to "World News Tonight With Peter Jennings," "Nightline" and "This Week" as well as various specials for the news division. Hume joined ABC in 1973 as a consultant for the network's documentary division and was named a Washington correspondent in 1976. He was later promoted to Capitol Hill correspondent and reported on Congress until 1988.

Earlier, Hume reported for United Press International, beginning his career as a newspaper reporter with The Hartford Times and the Baltimore Evening Sun.

He has received numerous honors and awards, including the 2003 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism from the National Press Foundation, and a 1991 Emmy Award for his coverage of the Gulf War. The author of two books, "Inside Story" and "Death and the Mines," Hume was named "The Best in the Business" by the American Journalism Review for his extensive news coverage of the White House.
