Barack Obama could have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize upon inauguration, and it would have been perfectly justified.
The current GOP deals exclusively in hatred, fear, and war. They love war, because there's no money to be made in peace.

Well these "new" GOPers (actually most are old vapors) don't even hide their greed and willingness to sell out the nation behind a made in China flag anymore. They are openly anti-American.

We do live on the same planet as the rest of the world so it might make sense to be seen as favorable as possible. I realize that you are a typical con and are only concerned with what your immediate needs are but the world does not revolve around you and your narrow ideology.

That is fine, but I find issue with those that are concerned about what the world thinks of us in a willy-nilly fashion. If you are unconcerned with world opinion, then it should be consistent for all subjects. I find that most cannot walk this line.

--But if memory serves me, among the excuses cons still use (to this day) for our having illegally invaded Iraq is that "everybody" (i.e. other nations, God, Bill Clinton, Socks the cat, etc) knew Iraq had WMD and we were only going along with all the cool kids (which apparently didn't include France and Germany--ick, ptoooi!)? So, I agree with wtagg 100%. Cons are extremely inconsistent when it comes to caring about what other country's think. Ok...That's not quite true. Cons believe they should care about what other countries think--as long as they AGREE with what other countries think. ;-P -

I seem to remember a coalition of the willing and how when the rest of the world thumbed their noses ( and rightfully so) for invading a country that wasnt a danger to anyone it seemed to have pretty much incapacitated our military. I fully agree! You can think about patriotism whatever you want, but by definition, a patriot will appreciate every honor for his country and every expression of a positive attitude towards it.

The Nobel Peace Price showed to the GOP´s that the world doesn´t share their disillusioned hatred and their envy. They are afraid of the positive effects this international honor could have, and they are more interested in the future of their party than in the future of America and its outward appearance. -

I have nothing against conservative fiscal dealings as long as they are conservative in all ways.
I have nothing against conservatives wanting the laws upheld, as long as they are upheld regardless of who commits a crime.
That said I see very few conservatives today !!!!

I think a distinction needs to be made between being conservative, and what the GOP has become. I hear perfectly fine Americans with none of the traits described in this article defending the GOP, but for what it once was, for what they wish it was...not the reality of what it has become.

The party seems to have lost it's brains and it's soul...and now wanders the countryside like a zombie with no purpose other than to eat it's citizen's brains and create more more zombies.
This lesson must be learned by the Democrats as well, the same forces that leeched onto the Republicans and bankrupted the soul of the party did so because they had political power, not because of any particular positions; are now just as diligently trying to tempt the Democrats simply because the tables have turned in the power structure.
I want to be clear, simply because you were once a Republican, or tend to favor conservative solutions to problems does not in any way mean that you are the subject of the criticism in this article. You know if you cheered the loss of the Olympics, booed the President when he was awarded the Nobel Prize, or wish for another terrorist attack to make the President look bad. If not, you are NOT the subject of the article...nor a modern GOPer.-

Sure it would have been nice to have an American city selected, but can't we do better than Chicago. As far as in the Nobel Prize, I don't place too much value on it because for one, it was awarded to Yasser Arafat, and two, apparently you don't even have to do anything to be awarded it. But I do actually agree with most of your first paragraph, people do allow their vision to be clouded by party allegiance, be it Republican or Democrat, I would consider myself to be a Libertarian, but so do Bill Maher and Pen Joullete,whose views would largely oppose one another.
