Posted By fsev41 1 month, 2 weeks ago in Political OpinionOn Thursday, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) called on 55 Republican adversaries of the public option to give up their government-funded health insurance. well, medicare and social security is different because you are forced to pay into it your whole life. accepting either doesn't automatically put you in the socialist or hypocrite camp, much like how wearing a leather belt doesn't automatically mean you are an animal hater.

in the case of the above mentioned GOP, they willingly socialize their health care benefits against the taxpayer while refusing to do the same for anybody else. although, none of them directly voted for those benefits, it's hypocrisy none-the-less. if they were consistent with their beliefs, they wouldn't burden the taxpayer.

while i do advocate that they should get paid well, i also think their direct benefits ought not be mended into the tax-payer burden. they all should have to go through private issuers. and if that means giving them a raise to help pay for it, then by all means, give them a raise.
i honestly don't think they get paid enough. in fact, if they got paid better, then maybe they wouldn't be so vulnerable to lobbyists in the first place. i mean if we can give millions to ceo's for failing to keep their company afloat, i'm sure we can sacrifice a similar amount to our congress (who fail all the same.) might as well. -

Do I under that the public option is going to be like medicare.Suits me if we go all the way.I paid into medicare from its inception in 1965 until 2002 before I could access it,so I don't see any comparison.Medicare = Apples/Public option = Oranges.
