I am a nurse and do not oppose anything that will help cure a disease or will help to make someone's life easier. I am opposed to taking another life in order to perform any kind of research. I do not believe that the end justifies the means, nor do I believe in situation ethics. I believe all life is sacred. Stem cell research can be done without taking life to do it. And while we applaud all the positive things that this research leads to, and I applaud it with the rest, I think there does have to be some degree of sanity in all of this. What those of us who have been on the front lines of this realize is that a lot of the research that is being done is cloaked by promises of cures and good will while the under belly has a very dark side. People should begin to ask themselves why medications that have been around for years and done well suddenly begin to cause problems. What changes? Those of us who oppose the stem cell research proposal oppose the wording and the open-ended freedom it would give science. If life is sacred and this is to cure a disease and help others, that is wonderful. But when it gets to the point that "some" life is sacred and "some" deserve to be cured, then it becomes based on who can pay for the cure. In too many cases the cures go to the highest bidders and it should not be that way. Nor should one life be held in higher esteem than another. But... for all the positive and good this will do ...GREAT!!! I would just like to make sure it stays GOOD and POSITIVE.
